okay so i read the sticky about 3rd gen lifts but i still had a few questions. What can you tell me about the pink, yellow, blue, red colors? i am confused on what that means. I plan on installing these since i do not want a whole lot of lift but still need a little space. all i want for right now is maybe 1"or so lift. just to beef up what i already have.

I'm taking a wild guess that you're referring to the '99 tall coils? Looks like you already have a '99 4runner so you might already have those coils on your truck, but maybe not. You might want to look at the springs on your truck and see what color codes are on them, if there are any. The colors are color codes, which tell you which spring is which (left coil, right coil).


The 99 Highlander Springs
If you want a small lift or have worn out springs, a good option might be to change out your springs for springs from the 1999 4Runner Highlander Edition. these springs sat 1" higher than any other 3rd Gen 4Runner. They can be ordered online or at a Toyota dealer.

99 spring part numbers:
Front Passenger Side Springs - Blue / Yellow (48131-35400)
Front Driver Side Springs - Blue / Pink (48131 - 35350)
Both Rear Springs - Yellow / Red (48231 - 35210)

im not sure about the "tall coils" i was not aware that there were different types. the lift thread didn't mention those... pardon my not knowing. :ballchain:

I'm confused now though lol.... what are you asking about then? You we're asking about the colors right?

ya i dont understand what all the colors mean is it an option between the two springs or are both colors on the spring. :wacko:

Oh I gotcha. The front passenger side spring will have two colors painted on the spring. Two dots, blue and yellow.

The drivers side spring will have two colors painted on the spring. Blue and pink.

The rear has two matching springs, both with 2 painted dots of yellow and red.

The front springs are different because the drivers side is very slightly taller to compensate for the weight of the driver.

Hope that all makes sense. Note, this only applies to the '99 tall coils aka highlander springs.
 
:nod::nod::nod: now that is the information that i was looking for!!! and im guessing that the install is pretty simple.

note: i am not experienced in stuff like this. mostly i started playing with my T4R to learn about it.

Yup very simple.

That's how I started man, just keep reading and researching and looking at what other people are doing to their trucks. Definitely ask questions, and then all the sudden things just start clicking in your head lol good luck with your build.

thanks. i read through your build. my runner has a mere 186k on it lol. love the truck and i'm glad to see that it has held up so long.
 
You can just run the springs if you want. I'd suggest replacing the rear shocks though as most stock rear shocks suck and go bad.

You'll just be looking at stock length shocks. Lookin' at anywhere between $100-$150 bucks for bilsteins or tokico's if you can find em cheap. Or you could just buy OEM shocks which are basically Monroe's and are like $40 a piece. The rancho's I think are around $50-$60 a piece. I've never run any of those shocks, as I run the tokico land cruiser shocks with the amount of lift I have and they are pretty beefed up. I'm not sure how the OEM tokico replacements are for a 4runner though.

well thank you for all the information. this gives me plenty to chew on. the suspension stuff might be in the mid future seeing as how i have college :juggle::juggle: but its always good to know your options

No problemo - that info is for a stock setup. If you're wanting to actually lift in the future, you got a whole bunch of options.. just a little more money lol
