HELP: How do I manually open my 2003 4Runner Trunk?

this system is temperamental and you may need to disconnect/reconnect your battery for the hatch to work again. i was installing a backup camera on the weekend and disconnected the trunk ecu so i could reach some wiring. after i reconnected the ecu harnesses, the trunk wouldn't open til i disconnected and reconnected the battery.

When you say taping into the reverse wire, how did you go about it?
Do you still have access to the wire you tapped into ? If so, does undoing the wiring you did get your reverse to come on?

sounds like you shorted something out with whatever wiring you were attempting. If possible, I would return the wiring to the way it was before and see where that gets you, if you still have no luck with the turn signals or reverse after that I would start checking fuses to see if you blew a fuse or two.

I guess "tapped" is technically not correct. I unplugged the plug going into the taillight and inserted the wires into the pins. (power and trigger wire into red/yellow striped wire for reverse light power and ground into the black/white ground pin)

Here's a diagram of how it was wired.

Now, plugging everything back as stock, the reverse light don't come on (tested w/ multimeter and no current going to pin) and my turn signals also don't work when using the stalk (but work when pressing the hazard).

I checked both the 15A turn/hazard fuse in the engine bay and 10A taillight fuse in the kick panel and they both looked fine.
