Help Installing Rear Window Deflector - Please

I just recently bought an '01 SR5 4WD 4Runner. It did not have a rear window deflector attached from factory. I love the look of them attached, so I went to a junkyard and bought a deflector that will fit and even have all the factory hardware. I know that on the factory installed deflectors, the screws go into a threaded like piece of metal inside the hatch, just for the deflector to be screwed into.

That brings me to my problem. Obviously, mine does not have the factory predrilled holes, or the threaded metal to screw into. The sheet metal is too thin to just drill a hole, and screw into it. Has ANYONE successful installed one of these deflectors? I have a template on where to put the screws; my problem is how to fasten it to the rear hatch. I am pretty handy at DIY stuff so I can do it, if I know how to do it. I'm not tool handicapped lol.

Thank you for any help or advice!!

I do not know anything on the topic but maybe try taking off the tailgate panel and seeing if you can would be able to drill holes in the stock positions then use nuts inside the panel to hold the bolts in. Just an idea if you do not get any other suggestions

Fightman did it.

BTW just my opinion but I wouldn't follow Fightman because he used rivets. I suggest you follow the factory instructions.

Thank you. And thanks for the thread on how to search. I'm not even a week old on this forum site.

no problem.

i try not to yell "learn to search" at people but rather help when possible and share my "how to search better" thread.
