Help me decide on a lift for my 17 TRD ORP w/ KDSS - $2k-$3k budget.

Hey everyone,

With the holiday season upon us, and hopefully deals along with them, I am looking at getting a lift for my car, I would like to get a 2.5" to 3" lift, if adjustable, even better.

I would also like to move up to 285/70/17 C load tires. I currently have 275/70/17 KO2s in load E, had to trim front bumper for slight rubbing. My current tires will last for a while as they only have 24K miles on them, but I'd like to plan for bigger tires at the same time as the lift and just add those later as deals come up, new or used.

I am the type of person that likes to buy high end quality stuff initial and just stick with it long term. This car is my forever car and I don't mind spending $2 - $3K for getting quality stuff. I heard there are even lifts that can be rebuilt saving money in the future.

This is my daily driver so comfort is important. I rock crawl locally at an off road park in Folsom, Ca and right now I am scrapping on rocks.

Specs,

-2017 TRD Off-Road Premium with KDSS, important cause I heard there needs to be extra consideration due to possible lean after lifting

- OEM TRD Pro black rims, will these allow the use of 285/70/17 rims? I think they are not as wide as other rims but if they work with 285s, that's great.


I am lost as to what I would need so any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Edit: The $2k-$3k budget is just for the lift.

Probably a pretty tight budget if your trying to include tires

icon stage 1 lift or any complete lift with coilovers- $2k

non adjustable lift might be somewhere $1100-1300. so you could save some there

upper control arms- $700

sounds like you need some armor if you are smashing on rocks- $300-750

tires could be- $700-1200

Dobinsons probably offers the best value on suspension components. JBA control arms are also highly praised and not that expensive. I'd start there. I have both and am extremely pleased.

I was looking at Icon stage 2 actually as a complete package but then I read about the lack of customer service, if needed, and that's why I made this thread. I also read the Icon lifts provide a more harsher ride so I am looking for feedback.

I am not so much looking to save money, but rather to buy the best lift within my budget that will last a long time, still provide a comfortable ride, and if possible be adjustable and can be rebuilt in the future, to save money then.

Icon is a rough ride with KDSS. When my seals blew, I just flat out swapped for bilstein 5100's in the rear (I only had icon's 2.0 seriews in the rear). I'm not sure I'll rebuild them. I've become less and less impressed with Icon over the years due to my experience, and are not in my consideration when I plan to go fully rebuildable (Radflo or FOX).

I think you're better off with a dobinsons or billys build at that price.

king coilovers, your choice for the rear like a toytec superflex or similar with bilstein 5100

JBA or total chaos upper control arms depending if you want a ball joint or not

Toytec Boss with SPC UCA's. Works perfect for mine. You may also want to add the Sonoran Steel Trac-bar specifically made for KDSS.
