Help me figure out my new 4Runner's lift

So against the advice of this thread, I am switching up my tires today, going to 235/75 BFG All Terrain KOs on 15" stock rims.

Have not yet checked the gearing because (this is sad) I can't jack up my truck. :dammit: the nerf bars all the way around mean that I can't get my hi-lift jack to an actual piece of frame, and I have the lift-mate on order currently. And I don't have a hydraulic jack right now. And I have a tachometer on order too, so...

Anyway I just had to get this tire switch done right now since I was doing the alignment and whatnot anyway. When those guys get it up on the lift today, I'll have them check out the gearing.

So I'm wondering- if the gearing has been changed (and I'm pretty sure is has been), what will be the effects of driving around on stock tires, let's say if there's a 4.56 on there? If it has been changed I'll change it back to stock eventually, but not in the next week.

The engine will rev up more for a given speed. Top speed could be hurt bad, meaning slow highway speeds and consequently lower MPGs (because of higher revs and also because of covering less ground per rev).

For example, have a Suzuki Samurai with 4.16 transfer case gearing on stock tires. It DOESN'T reach 60 mph top speed and cruise speed is around 40 mph.

My 4Runner came with factory 4:88's and 31" tires. When I bought it, the previous owner had installed 235's. You want the lowest gears you can get in these underpowered trucks so if the PO swapped for lower then count your blessings.
Most people are doing the opposite of you... My wife says she wants "big" tires and a lift so I will be installing 33's and a lift soon.
Oh yea... 4runners are not known for great fuel mileage.

I drove around with stock tires and 4.56s for a winter. Not horrible. Great around town and on 2 lane roads, not so much on the highway.

She's definitely driving pretty high. I just got the tach in the mail today and will install this afternoon so I should be able to get readings, but the tranny was pushing pretty hard when I took her up to 60 on the highway. It already was a high-geared rig, but now.... yikes. I'll update once I install the tach.
