Help me figure out this noise please!

I recently purchased a 02 4runner... After having it for a little while ive noitced a strange noise that sounds like a goose squawk. It seems to be coming from the driver side of the car, i dont think that its the ac/heater blower. It will go away after 20 seconds or so but today it went on for longer than it ever has. It only happens when i start the car for the very first time in the day, but it wont make the noise everyday. Ill try to get a video of it as well so you can actually hear the noise.

Holy crap, this is happening to me too! It happens from the drivers side. It rarely happens, and it only happens on start-up, but it does sound like a goose, that's funny.

But do I have a charcoal canister on my '02?

Oooo definitely not your charcoal canister LOL.. No idea man, but it definitely does sound like a goose in your truck. Hopefully someone can chime in with some thoughts.

That is 100% my sound as well. But hot damn! Mine is nowhere near as bad and it doesnt do it when i hit the pedal. But when I first start up the engine, and it only really does it in the cold, but it will make that noise at me at 6:00am to work and it scares the living shit out of me. Its sometimes so loud. It honestly sounds like a fuel pump/filter is clogged or something. But that wouldnt make sense because I dont have throttle lag, hmm..

Subscribed in every way. Im intrigued. I would get a video but like I said, its rare. But identical noise.

This isnt a common issue, but i have also noticed we both own 2002s. Hmm...

Does it come near/from your passenger front door? If so I have the same thing on my 01. I think it's the air re circulation motor automatically switching when you turn it on.

Does everyone here with the noise have Climate control?

Yes, I have climate control. It sounds like its coming from behind my steering column. And it sounds horrid. The OP also believes its coming from the drivers side of the truck.

Mine sounds like an electric motor that's hanging. Lasts for about 5 seconds then goes off. If you have your circulation switch to recirculate it will change to bring in fresh air once you start your truck (after a few minutes). I believe this is the noise I'm hearing. Notice the position of the re circulation switch before and after you hear the noise.

Will do. I never even thought of that. And mine sounds like the video of the OP's, but it does it when I start my truck up, and its idling. It goes for about 2-7 seconds and stops. It also doesn't happen every time. I will look into the switch. I wonder why that would cause it?

Op, you're going to have the most luck with this because your sound is longer lasting. Mine only lasts for a few seconds. When you hear that noise press the air intake selector to the opposite mode and see if the noise stops.

No, it sounds strongest right behind the brake pedal. If i pop the hood and try to listen its pretty quiet.

Both, but only the first start up in the morning. I don't think the engine just needs to be running, just the key in the ON position.

How many miles does yours have on it? Mine's got 79,000... i dont know if this has any relevance to the noise, but maybe?
