Hi,

I'm new and apologize if I'm raising issues you guys have already covered to death (I searched and didn't find anything).

I have an '06 V8 4WD SR5. How can I find out the max load and PSI rating of my *wheels*?

I ask because I just upgraded my tires from the OEM P tires to LT tires, same size (265/65R17) but with max PSI 80 and load range E. I understand that I need to run the tires at the appropriate PSI for the load they are carrying and that LT tires need a higher PSI than P tires to carry the same load. (45 PSI seems about right for normal driving; I'd inflate a little more when loaded but don't expect to come close to 80). I read somewhere that there would be a problem if I inflate the tires beyond what the *wheels* are rated for, even if I'm within the tires' max PSI.

I upgraded the tires because I'm trying to make up for having coil springs rather than leaf springs in the rear suspension, since I tow a horse trailer and want as much stability as possible in case I have to swerve sharply to avoid an accident. (I also have an airbag system in the rear suspension for the same reason).

Was the tire upgrade a reasonable idea, or did I waste my money?

Thanks for your help!

i run my tires at 44 psi but an air bag system for your vehicle sounds like a good idea if your constantly towing a trailer

Offhand, I don't recall what the max PSI for the OE wheels is (probably stamped on the back side of the wheel somewhere...), however, 45+ psi should be no problem at all.

Stock wheels in good shape I presume. It might deserve some consideration at 80psi but at, say, 60 or less, no.
