HELP! need WIDER tires!

My father & I use to argue about this all the time.
P265/70 R17
P265 = width in millimeters
70 is the height to width ratio
17 = the diameter of the wheel in inches
In other words to get calculate the sidewall height you multiply 265 X 0.70 = x millimeters
So the difference between a P265/65/17 and 265/70/17 is that sidewall height only which of course is directly related is overall diameter.

That may be a manufacturer specific cause or a typo. I am 99 % sure that my calculations true for all other tires.

I don't have 4" of lift anymore, but when I did, I trimmed the plastic because during offroading, the tires rubbed at full wheel-lock when they were stuffed in the wheel well. (and i didn't like the grinding sound it made when the lugs were chewing up the plastic)
Plus, Good Times (Lance) said it would be necessary to trim those parts - the plastic cups - (and said that before I had the tires).

Yokohama makes the Geolandar in 275/65 and they have great reviews on Tire Rack...

How about this size? I was looking also. stock is 30.6
285 60 17 = 30.5
the width would look nice I think but unsure if it would rub width wise.

Not sure if it would rub or not, compare tire widths and heights at tirerack.com. Without a lift the largest tire that can fit should be no larger than a 265/70. Keep in mind that most 285 tires won't fit a 7.5" rim which is what the 4Runners have. Do a search for 275's and see if you like that look...lbrunner said:

I know that on my 3rd gen could use 285 75 16's on stock 7" because many at yotatech ran them on lifted runners. our 7.5 rim I would "think" could accomodate a 285. I was wondering about rubbing due to the width. When I'm ready, maybe I'll just take the plunge and try them! The height in 30.5 which almost stock but miata calculator doesn't show section width. I'll check at the tirerack. Thanks!
