I need some help figuring out where to start and what to do. FSM didn't seem to give me the answer or searching the forums.

I am getting the code C1231 Malfunction in Steering Angle Sensor with all the traction control lights on.

I tried the zero point calibration and it went off then shortly came back :(

Any info would help!

Bueller? Bueller? Bueller?

Well, if nobody knows what to do...burn it to the ground? LOL Just Kidding. At least this tells me that its not very common to have this issue.

Sorry about the delayed response. I don't get on the forums as much as I used to in the past couple years.

Basically it's a very generic DTC even from Toyota's side that boils down to "Steering Angle Sensor has an issue."

IF your powers & grounds on the sensor are all good, then more than likely the sensor decided to give up the ghost. I can't tell you why it did, they just seem to decide to die one day (I have had brand new Tacomas come in with dead ones before randomly.)

Another thing you can try is IF it does take a Zero Point Calibration and you can drive it a short while before the DTC resets, you might be able to use an ABS capable scantool to see the datalist for the module. That way, if the Steering Angle Sensor is stuck at a specific measurement and won't change no matter what it's more than likely the sensor (there's some exceptions to this, but generally you'll see like -1040° or 632° on the datalist and it won't change when you drive/turn the wheel.)
