Help needed Transmission Filter Part#

How many miles on that fluid and magnets build up? I seen a lot worse then that on Toyota Transmission magnets.

I'm not sure. I assumed the original owner never did it, but there were scuff marks from the previous scraper, I believe. I did not think that Toyota used a rubber gasket OEM but I wish they did - it came right off. I have only put 40k on it. I asked the guy if the thing ever have major service like a timing belt and he sheepishly shook his head, no. I think the basics were fairly well-maintained otherwise and driven rather timidly. I'm gonna have a look at the timing belt next.

Awesome Endlessblockades ! Yep oem never used a rubber gasket, so sometime in the ownership it was serviced. Magnets don't look bad at all. FPIG is always better for sealing that up.

Good to hear - that was the worst of the 4 magnets and the metal particles were way too small to feel between my greasy fingers.

Edit: Ignore Timmy's advice at your own peril - I could not get the pan to drop down and out with the sway bar in place. Instead of removing it I just disconnected both end links and rotated the bar forward on its bushings.

Nice.. I personally only use gaskets on all transmission pans. You are correct Toyota did glue the transmission pans on the 3rd gens by factory and do not sell a pan gasket. A lot of newer transmission they seem to went back to gaskets again. Not sure about my 09 tocuma but my 07 sienna van and 2010 van use pan gaskets again and it seems to vary on Toyota models.

I used several Feel pro gaskets on the 3rd gens and even put 70K on 1 of them with zero issues with the gaskets. The main reason I use gaskets is to save time cleaning the gasket area. To me it is just easier and faster to just replace the gasket on the pans. They come down so much easier and you don't distort the pan lip trying to get it off either. But this is only my preference though. Glad to see people changing the filters too as that really helps the transmission last a lot longer. :-)

This is the tool I use to separate the pan. Then a carbide scraper to get the gunk off the trans side and a wire wheel on the pan.

Yeah it was weird to have the pan start to fall off unexpectedly on the last couple bolts! I had my pan-seal breaker ready to go, too. Someone before me found an aftermarket rubber seal for the A340F with all the specific indentations and whatnot to fit perfectly. Left the surface of the transmission perfectly clean, too.
