Help on a rear tube bumper

So I couldn't sleep and decided to browse local craigslist ads to see what was out there. I came across a tube bumper for a second gen and with some research, found that the width of 2nd and 3rd gen T4r's are the same. My current bumper has a softball sized dent in it so this could be the perfect replacement.
I was wondering what everyone though of rear tube bumpers and how easy it would be to alter the mounting brackets to fit a 3rd gen.
Oh... and the bumpers only $200

That looks like a similar design to a 1st gen marlin crawler bumper. If I'm not mistaken the mounting brackets should be removable and then it should be straight into the frame rails, like this http://www.chrisgeigerphoto.com/bbs/rear-bumper.jpg

Edit. Its actually a trail gear bumper and the mounting brackets are a solid piece so unless you cut them it will sit really low

Depending on how used it is, $200 might be a little steep. Those bumpers go for $400 brand new. But yes, that is a Marlin bumper.

Thanks for the help finding what it is. Roughly how low do you think it'll sit with it's current brackets?

Depending on how used it is, $200 might be a little steep. Those bumpers go for $400 brand new. But yes, that is a Marlin bumper.

I initially didn't know how the price of the bumper new and based off of 3rd gen bumpers, I thought $200 was a steal. Hopefully he's up for a little negotiating because there's not that high of a demand. Going to make a few calls to local fab shops to see how much it would be to get new mounting brackets but I don't think it'll be too cheap.

When I got a ticket for no rear bumper up here a while back, I borrowed my buddy's 2nd gen rear bumper to tack on and get signed off - the mounting points were within 1/2" off, so I welded (2) pieces of 1/4" on to accommodate. When I tacked it on, there were a few parts that did not line up with the body, and the bumper itself sat too low. Ill see if I can find a pic. You could prob make it work by chopping off the mounts and fabbing new mounting points. Then again, the one you found could be different and work.

The rear of it looks good, just the side pieces are a bit too low/wide in my opinion but I can't afford anything else. And I've since added an 1.5" body lift

Is this a second gen tube bumper? Price is the problem for me too being a college student but don't want to pass up a good deal when it comes around. The bumper looks really good from the back and I don't think the bulky-ness on the sides will bother me too much

What was written on your ticket? We all know he was jealous of your 4Runner, that's why he really wrote it...
I'm gonna go ahead and take my bumper off and check this one out to see how it lines up. If it looks close I may just leave it and if not, just alter the mounting brackets like you did

Thanks for the reference, his bumper looks very close to the one I'm pursuing so I'll definitely shoot him a message.

Edit: I may actually tag him in this post so he can share with everyone. His bumper looks like it was made for a 3rd gen after his modification.

Another forum member told me to check out your build on your rear bumper. I found a pretty good deal on one made for a 2nd gen and it looks nearly identical to yours. The seller doesn't know who it's made by but it looks like the Trail Gear Rock Defense Rear bumper (https://www.trail-gear.com/TG/Rear_...r_/i_0_0_3202/_120111-1-KIT.aspx#.VCMM8fldXcI)

Just called a few local shops and just to get it fitted for a 3rd gen, it would be around $250-$300 so I might hold off, a little steeper than I wanted to go

I have the same bumper on my 3rd gen. I didnt have to do much to mount it. I only had to cut off the brackets and slide two small shims in and weld it up.

I bought this bumper and then bought the Addicted front. a cheaper option for me
