help on swapping diffs

Hello,
I'm going to be swapping my diffs from 4.10 to 4.56. I can get my hands on a 2nd gen 3rd member already detroit locked and 4.56. I'm not sure if it's a 4cyl or 6cyl (I have a 3.4l open diff), or does it even matter?

If my research is correct, the 3rd fits but I need a pinion flange adapter for 30 to 27 spline. Is this correct? Is this all I need? Am I on the right path here? Or should I hold out for a 4.56 e locked axle?

Please help a new guy out.

I'd get an elocker. I've had detroits and really dislike them on the street. Makes the driveline feel sloppy and clunky. I would think all 4runner thirds have the same flange bolt pattern, or you can get the double drilled flange.

The problem I'm running into is the e locker is hard to find in a 4.56 and I would like to buy the whole axle already set up. The salvage yards have them listed wrong and all the "4.56" axles are really 4.30. I could start with 4.30 but I would like to do it right the first time.

I have a 5 speed 3.4l and I will be running 255/85r16 KM2s with 3.5" lift and plate bumpers, full skids, rock sliders, and the usual junk.

Why not purchase an elocker assembly?

That doesn't include the e locker motor or wiring and I would need to modify the housing of my current axle. I would buy an ARB for that hassle.

But anyway I found an e locker axle with 4.30 gears for $100 that I'm going to look at next week. It would fit the bill for a while and I could upgrade to 4.56 cheaper and easier.

2nd Gen diff should drop in if it's a V6, I just put a V6 3rd Gen Pickup diff in my rear end with 4.88's, no swapping necessary, just dropped out my third and bolted the other in. Not sure if the locker changes anything.
