Help Please - Removing Air Vents in Dash

Hi Everyone,

I'm trying to remove the air vents in the dash (2 center & 2 sides). Does anyone know how to do this. One is already broken, and I don't want to break another.

the center will come up from the back side after you have that trim piece off. The sides are most likely the same way, but i really don't remember even looking at them that close. most likely you will have to remove the air ducting from the backside and pull them that way.

Are you talking about the moveable grills that direct airflow? I just rotate mine down as far they go, grab them from the top, and keep pulling down and out. Or maybe it's the reverse...rotate them up, grab the bottom, and pull up and out. I can't remember which, but I've removed them this way several times to clean out drink spills and such. The assemblies pop right out, and then snap back in. The ductwork behind the dash is a different story.

Yes, just the grills. I just want to clean them out better. I really don't want to break anything though. I'll gently give the tiliting upwards a try. If that doesn't work, I'll tilt downwards. Thanks for the advice.

So I just tried to remove the center "grills" before coming into work. I was afraid to push too hard, but it didn't seem like anything was ready to pop out. Is anybody else more sure of the way to remove the vent grills?

try getting skinny flatheads down to the middle of each side and press them in then pull out simultaneously

Thanks MillerPKA, the center grills came out pretty easily. However, the "grills" on the sides of the dash (near the doors) look like they're set up differently. Does anyone know how to remove those ones?

Sorry to revive an old thread but I’m trying to find some info on removing the vents on the driver side and passenger side. I can’t seem to find any info on it. Did you ever get them replaced? If so how did you remove them?

No idea if this works on T4R’s, BUT... on other foreign cars I’ve owned, a plastic card hotel key, slid in between the space in the dash and the vent has released the little plastic tab that usually holds the vent in place. On my Miata, which had round vents, you had to insert the card and then move it around in a circular motion. Maybe for T4R’s you need one card for each side?

Also, threading dental floss through and back to give you pulling “levers” might...might give you some extra pulling power. Just a thought. Good luck.

I have the same question. My passenger one has a broken blade, so I ordered an used one off Ebay. I've attached a picture of the unit, which appears to have holes on the top and bottom for screws to hold it in place. Does anyone know how to access the screws? I'm really hoping it doesn't involve dropping the entire dashboard... :shrug:

You can see in the picture there are two "snap-in" tabs on either side near the middle. I don't think you need any tools to remove them. Probably just a light pull outwards.
