Help: pricing with TRD SuperCharger

Hey,

Im about to purchase my 1st 4runner, I really like the 3rd gen look and its within my price range.

So, I found a used car dealership selling a 4RUNNER SR5 SPORT PKG with 4X4 5 speed and it comes with a TRD supercharger.
its looks awsome inside and out (Imperial Jade Mica green) with leather interior
BUT it has 231,228 miles on it!
They're asking $7,495 I need help on making an offer!

I read the pricing sticky:
$3k : 1996-1998, Beaten and abused.
Poor condition with Very High miles. Salvage title and body/drive-train damage likely.
$3k-5k: 1996-2000 Base, SR5 or Limited in Fair condition with High-Very high miles (175k+).
$5k-7k: 1996-2000 SR5, Limited or Sport in Good condition with Mid-High miles (150k+).
$7k-9k: 1999-2002 SR5, Limited or Sport in Great condition with Medium miles (125k+).
$9k-10: 1999-2002 Limited or Sport Ed. in Excellent condition with Low-Mid miles (100k+).
$10k+ 2001-2002 Limited or Sport Ed. in Near Mint condition and with low miles (Under or around 100k)

as you can see, the supercharger is awsome so i need help on making an offer.

In my opinion $7500K is a bit steep for a car with that many miles.
Dont get me wrong, that thing has a lot going for it. If you could haggle it down a bit, I would take it. Hopefully the supercharger was installed at the factory because otherwise, there is a chance that it was installed incorrectly in which case, you should test drive it.

I would take that exact car for $7500 if it had maybe 130-150K miles on it.
Good find though! Post pics of it. Try to haggle for $6200-$7200.
I was just always taught to haggle no matter the price so...

Also, a supercharger alone is around $2000 and the extra components (7th injector, etc.) adds roughly another $1000.
Although, depending on when the charger was installed, its value has greatly decreased. In terms of being on the vehicle, don't let the seller make a grand on having a charger under the hood. But, keep in mind it has some value. (An example: $3000 96 4runner w/TRD SC shouldn't be $4000 for an SC. A SC cannot be 33% of the value of the vehicle.)

^^ thanks, i appreciate the feed back.. I was thinking of hitting the guy with a 5k offer... you are right about the supercharger...hopefully the truck doesnt have that "ping" do to lacking supportive mods..

That SC could go at any time. Rebuilds are not uncommon with such high mileage.

My 4Runner ran perfectly until 199k miles and then I had a cracked head. All maintenance was done, truck was babied over its lifetime. I've had my 4Runner 11 years now. There was no warning just a sudden CEL and misfire.

Just keep in mind the risk of such high miles. The SC is just one more point of failure on the horizon.

Our trucks are great, almost all make it 175k+ on the engine and trans but a major failure between 200k-250k is perfectly normal for this type of truck.

All very good points made. I guess if you do buy it, be ready to get your hands dirty a bit. Unbolt your SC and inspect all elements. Ensure your pulley system is functioning properly. Start your car and pop the hood. Swing the throttle body and watch your engine as you reach around 3000rpms.

Hell, do it in the lot. Tinkering with the truck also makes you look like you know more than you really do. Scares those greaseball salesmen a bit. Then, once your all dirty from inspecting in his lot, go over to him and with a serious face, say, "We need to talk." Dog the sh!t out of it to him and say that what you looked at was a $5000 4Runner. Haha, actually, come to VB and scoop me. I will go with you!
