Hey to everyone!
I'm new here, and glad I found this site! I have a 2004 V6 2WD with 133k miles and finally have been able to track down a scratching/clicking sound coming from under my dash. I'm hoping for some help now because I don't know what the part is to even begin to determine how to fix it. I've searched through the repair manual and can't find what this part is. This community seems like a much better place to start that a mechanic.
The component is 2 pieces, white and oriented along the console wall under the dash on the driver side. The sound is intermittent, but continuous, if that makes sense, and it's happening because it looks like a motor is unsuccessfully trying to drive/move the smaller arm of the part. As I said, the action/sound is intermittent, but continuous. It occurs whether I'm driving or in park (engine running) and both when the AC is on and off.
I'm including 2 pictures in hopes this will help identify the component and maybe generate an idea as what's wrong with it. Sorry for the picture qualities, but it's the best I could do in the time I had this evening. The white plastic component is highlighted in red. Circled in yellow in the 2 pictures is the part that I'm guessing is what's trying to drive the arm.
