Help with 2015 Trailer brake controller.

I have a towing package on my 2015.
The trailer weighs 2500 plus traveling stuff.
There is an electrical connector for the trailer at the back bumper

The trailer mfg. says I need a need a brake controller.
Is this a plug and play item which is mounted to the lower dash and plugs into some connectors which came with the towing package.
Or is this some major surgery to the wiring harness in the dash.?
Is it better to have my Toyota dealer install this or should I go to a travel trailer place? Thanks for help.

I thought this was plug n play on the vehicle side. Should be able to take the harness that should have been in your glovebox, wire to your controller, and then connect the harness to the plug under the dash. There should have been a slip of paper with your harness discussing this.

Yeah plug and play. You should have been given the harness when you bought your truck. Short harness about 8-10'inches with a plug on both ends.

My harness only has a plug on one side for plugging into the vehicle. The other side has no connector and needs to be wired to the controller harness as the controllers may use a different connector.

For my controller, I simply purchased this harness.

Your truck should've come with a wiring harness that plugs under the lower left dash. Some manufacturers (Tekonsha) sell adapters meant to plug into specific vehicles. IIRC, I used both the Tekonsha adapter and the Toyota-supplied harness in conjunction with one another, although I may have only used the Tekonsha part.

In any case, it's quite simple and you can do it yourself with simple hand tools.

The OEM harness plugs into the white connector located above the parking brake. The wires spice into the harness included with the electric brake controller.
