Help with Craven Speed Stubby

So I bought one of these for my '02 runner, unscrewed the old broken mast antenna, and went to screw the Stubby in. Unfortunately there was no place at all to put it. The well was way bigger than the screw, and there was nothing in there that was threaded.

So I called Craven Speed and they said return it - they don't work on power antennas, just fixed ones. Has anyone been able to make this work? I tried searching and didn't come up with much.

If you do the Tacoma whip swap you should be able to thread that right on.

I was hoping I wouldn't have to do that, which is why I bought the Craven Stubby in the first place, but it looks like it's unavoidable
