Help with driver side CV? boot

Please help,

I am a first time 1995 4 Runner owner ( 1 week). I guess I didn't check the vehicle close enough and just found I have a driver side inner constant velocity joint (if that is what it is called) boot that is broken. It appears that the grease is still in the joint and there is little dirt.

Does anyone have a technical description of how to replace the boot? I have replaced them on front wheel drive cars once without too much trouble. How difficult is it to change a boot on a runner? Is a split boot worth the money and do they work or is a slip boot the best? If I have a technition do it, how much cost am I looking at?

Any information and help is really appreciated.

Thai,

Thanks for the information. I will archive it for further use. You aren't going to believe this but I called a local Mieneke shop and was quoted $50 labor to replace the boot. Of course I took off work to take advantage of this. (all other quoted $149 +) They said they misquoted but honored their quote. So, I got the inner and outter boots replaced for $65 + $38 for the Toyota boot kit from local dealer. I am dure that next time I won't be so lucky.

Safety & blue skies,

Jeff
