There are a few things I'm still lost on when it comes to the suspension, and this happens to be one of them. Perhaps it's because I'm terrible at math, or perhaps I'm just flat out not getting it. So if someone would be kind enough to explain or at least link me to a helpful guide that'd be amazing.
I'm planning on running a full bumper here in a few weeks. With the winch and lightbar, the estimated total is roughly 220lbs. That's 60lbs more than what I currently run on my 650lb King Coil. I went ahead and added the desired weight on the front of the vehicle and it drooped. When adding me in the vehicle (I'm a big guy) it dropped even further.
My plan is to go up to 700LB King Coil to help with the additional weight as well as with myself, but to also help with the preload, but this is where I'm getting confused.
0 preload is going to be the smoothest correct? The more preload you put on, the higher the vehicle goes, but the stiffer it becomes? I assume I have that all correct?
I currently have my setup at 2.5" so roughly 12 or so threads showing. If I go to a 700lb coil, am I going to need the same amount showing to achieve the 2.5" of lift? Or because it takes more to compress the coil will I only have to show half of that to achieve the same?
Am I just going overboard with 700? I know you can pump up the nitrogen in the shocks to help with some of this, but thought maybe the 700 would just be a quicker/easier solution.
My total setup is this:
Front Bumper 220LBS
Rock Sliders 130LBS
31M Battery 80LBS
Skid Setup 170LBS (estimate)
Total weight of what I have currently is +430LBS, and will probably go up to 600LBS once the skids go on.
