Help with Trailer math.

So I was asked if I could make someone a trailer similar to a M416.

No problem. Easy peasy. Cutting, welding, and bending.

Math is another thing.

I want to make sure I have this right before I get quotes on metal for this.

So, according to the attached picture (upper left), if I were to transfer the tub of the trailer to a flat piece of steel, it would come out to 81.5" wide x72" long.

How did I get that?

The "floor" of the trailer is 41", the sides are 11"(x2), the "angle" is 4.75"(x2), and the upright is 4.5"(x2).

41+(11x2)+(4.75x2)+(4.5x2)=81.5.


Can someone check that for me?

Like I said, I want to make sure this is right.

Just remember that one of your additive dimensions will end up being short because of the radius of the bends. The 4.5" for example might end up only being 4.375" so if you plan for that you will have no problems. The way around this is don't dimension one of your additive dimensions. If any parts need to fit to those dimensions then make the breaks first, then measure after bending for mating parts. Basic rule is dimension the total (height, width, length, etc) and dimension everything but one dimension. That dimension will have the tolerances from manufacturing, depending on how tight you want to get it. For example I wouldn't cut the back panel until I got the tub bent because the back panel is not bent and will have different tolerances. Hope this helps.
