Morning guys. I have a couple of issues. Please help so I can try and get my ride going again. 92 4runner 3.0 with auto 2wd. Friday I was driving down the road like normal, and slowed to turn a corner. When I got off of the brakes and went to give it gas, it fell on its face. Almost no forward motion at all in "D". check engine light comes on and stays on. I managed to limp it back home and found out that in reverse everything is normal except engine light.
Also if I drop into low gear and manually shift it has much better response. I jumped the E1 and TE1 terminals to read the codes but the check engine light doesn't come on and flash at all. Any help is appreciated

Terrible as always. Hahaha. It smells like tranny fluid. It hasn't been replaced in a while and it was full when I checked it when I got back to the house.
 
Not saying it isn't a clutch or trans issue, but this smells like a bad TPS to me. The first clue is that the truck behaves normally when you shift manually - a lack of TPS signal can make the trans shift up into OD and stay there until you force it out, and trying to take off from a start in OD will make you think the motor is on it's face. The second clue is the lack of any code at all from the engine light when you jump the diag port - no blinky engine light with that port jumped means a bad TPS or a defective bulb behind the engine light, and you said the light illuminated earlier, so... probably a bad TPS. Don't replace it for the hell of it though, make sure it's bad first. Here's a link to test it: Toyota 22RE Throttle Position Sensor.
 
I'm not going to rule out any possibility with this thing. I did mess with the tps some last night and thought a simple adjustment would help it out. Started fine!! I started to dance a little inside, then what seemed to be the nasty "miss" I had ever seen and check engine light was back on and idling like crap. I will run through these test the next time it isn't raining and possibly grab another tps.
 
You need to set it correctly for the codes to read! Its pointless to adjust it without doing it like the manual says, and replacing it with another tps will not fix the issue unless you adjust that one correctly too.

First issue right off the bat is the fact that the check engine light is on while driving, yet will not flash when you install your jumper. That right there says it is incorrectly adjusted at the very least.

Once its adjusted according to the manual, you can then pull the codes to see what the issue is/was. Chances are, it was just the tps slightly out of adjustment. And believe me when I say this, the adjustment can be off by a 64th of an inch! It is truly that touchy when you adjust it. I'd suggest doing it on a workbench with the throttle body clamped in a vise.

If you choose to try your luck at adjusting it without a multimeter and feeler gauge, then you can try this way:

With the engine running and the tps loosened enough to turn by hand, rotate the tps till your idle drops, then turn it back VERY VERY SLOW, until the idle picks back up again. That is the exact spot where it is set correctly.

I've set them many times before exactly like this, and it sometimes works even better than the stock setting, but it takes an extremely fine touch to to this properly. It also helps to have one set screw cinched down just enough to keep it from moving when you tighten the other one up.

Once you get it set properly, let us know what code(s) were stored.

I'm new to the forum here. I recently purchased a 93 4Runner from my roommate. It's a 5 speed 22R and has been running pretty great up until about a week ago. The idle is lower than usual (600ish), oil pressure drops right off at idle, but raises as i accelerate. The acceleration is really rough, exhaust is sputtering and my gas mileage has gone down drastically. I'm not sure if I'm posting to the right thread, but hopefully I can get some help, it would be greatly appreciated.

Oil pressure on these motors always reads low at idle. Running rough and poor mileage could be a lot of things. Start a new thread so you don't sidetrack this one, we'll help.
