AFAIK, it should be plug and play. The keycode stuff all happens at the Body ECU, not the ECM. Make double sure you got the exact same part number and that all the plugs are well seated. Check plugs and sockets for any damage.

Was the ECM the only thing that was touched between running and not running?

To be honest, I have never done an ECM swap. I have never had one fail. Body ECU's die all the time. Not so the ECM.

Part number is exact. Looks to be in perfect condition for what I can see. When I swap the new one in, the throttle hums and it opens and closes. So that portion of the ecm definitely works. It cranks, just won't turn over. I assume it hasn't seen power in a few years. I can't imagine this one could be bad too. Does it have a "learning" period? Maybe leaving the ignition on for a couple minutes before cranking? This is beginning to frustrate me.

It has a learning period, but that only effects closed loop operation, which happens after engine reaches operating temp. Start-up uses a fixed map contained in memory and it runs in 'open loop' without input from the o2 sensor until it reaches operating temp.

I did a little research and I may have been wrong about the key thing. I'm right about the circuit connection being to the Back Door ECU but according to this thread the ECM needs to be programmed to the key chip, assuming your rig has chipped keys.

I don't suppose you could go back to the junkyard and get the key for that donor 4Runner. The chip does not actually have to be in the key in the lock; it just needs to be in close proximity. Then you can add your keys to the system according to the above.

Hey sorry I have been on a hiatus. I had previously changed up my air intake from stock to a cold air and tossed in a throttle body spacer too boot. Prior to the issues.. I ended up buying a code reader to clear the codes.. the ship was going to charge about the same amount... so I invested.

I cleared it for some time.. it was driving me nuts and I ended up cleaning the intake and the mass air flow sensor. Drained the battery, hooked everything back up and took it for a 20 km drive down thw highway. I haven't had any issues with it since actually...

Appreciate all the help guys.. a ton of reading through the forums got me to this conclusion.

They're both out of sr5 trim level. No immobilizer. I'll call the shop tomorrow and see what they have to say. Thanks for all the help.
 
Had same problem p1126 - 2001 4-runner

No acceleration. Turned off car, turned back on, idiot lights still on but car moved. Happened multiple times. Toyota recommended replacing throttle body ($1776). They did it, but next day, same thing occurred. They ended up finding a short in the wire leading to throttle body. Short was located in wheel well of driver's side front tire. I'm hoping to get them to refund my $1776. :faint:
 
Beneficial thread revival to help out the community.
If anyone experiences this problem, check the ground on driver side of upper intake plenum. Several vehicles checked have had this loose causing the p1126 fault and a new/used TB doesn't fix it.

Checked that ground wire on the plenum as described and it was loose. Tightened it. I'll report back in a few days to see if it's a definite fix.
 
So it's been about a week. No further problems, no codes, no nothing. So far so good. Saved $2200 from giving to the dealer.
