As indicated in the title. I'm calling out to any and all who are running or have previously run Hercules terra trac AT 2's. I have been living with tread cupping (or feathering) for a little while now and I'm really sick of it. I can't say what my mileage is on them exactly, I have to find my notes, but I think it about 40k. A few days before I got those tires, I installed a Bilstein 5100 lift and FJC springs, again, I think its about 40k on all that stuff. When I started hearing the "whooping" or "rumbling," I thought it might be tire balance so I got them re-balanced and had no change. At the time I knew I was do for an alignment but things forced me to put that off a little longer than originally planned. Sure enough the alignment was out, but not really bad.
OK, so I know worn shocks can cause cupping, but I have difficulty with the idea that the Bilsteins are worn at around 40k (just roads and a few grassy fields) with standard use. When I do the bumper test, I don't seem to notice any bouncing in the suspension... The guys at the shop said the alignment could have done the cupping ( I think my toe was the worst and camber out just a bit, but I might be able to find the alignment analysis to verify). I have also read that poor quality rubber can lead to toe, so I'd like to know if anyone with these hercules tires have had similar issues (or any issues at all for that matter).
Can I make a claim against the tread wear warranty for cupping??
I think I'm going to replace them with Firestone Destination A/T's, I had those on my previous truck and I liked those.
Re:cupping vs. feathering. There seems to be issues with terminology, so my tires have the differing wear alternating among the outer tread lugs. It's not solely a strict low/high (one after the other) pattern, some low lugs skip after 2 regular (high) lugs... if that males any sense.
