Herculiner

So after spilling a 5 gallon water jug all over the back area of my 4Runner yesterday and pulling up the carpet...there is no more padding because of a prior soaking/mildewing that occured in the 4R...I started thinking about how I could make my vehicle more "water-proof".

I know that underneath the carpet in the back you have a painted metal surface. What I am thinking about doing is pulling all the carpet out and using HERCULINER to apply a "bed-liner" from the plastic seam under the back windows to the floor and from the rear seat back to the rear hatch. Has anyone done/seen this before? How about any tests or experience with bed liner material on plastic such as the kind in the back of our vehicles? Thanks for the help. And when I get back from the desert I will make sure to do a full write up if I decide to go through with the project.
