got a problem with a rear window in a /86 4Runner (no rear wiper)

I have done extensive work on getting this rear window to work .

- rear window switch , and lock cylinder removed , cleaned .
- new regulator and window track
- rear door wiring repaired
- front switch removed and contacts cleaned

all works great .. except the inner switch !! it works up and down just fine , until the window is in it's full "up" position .. then it wont go down .
It's like there is some sort of "limit switch" when in the full up .. but only on the inside switch ..

I can use the rear switch to lower it 1CM .. then the inner switch works up and down , no problems . I can then put the window to the full up again , and the switch dosnt work .
I thought it might be dragging on the weatherstrip on the top , so I removed it , so there was no interference .. didn't help .

I wonder if the wiper position interlock is screwing with you. Once the window is down a crack, that interlock is bypassed - I'm not looking at the wiring diagram and could be completely off base, but if there are two different paths between that interlock and the respective switches, maybe one of those paths is bad allowing the tailgate switch to work even though the interlock is triggered? Try bypassing that interlock.

I dont know if my issue was the same as yours, but my window did the same thing when I first got my 4runner. It turned out to be the tail gate switch. Once the window was all the way up it was stuck and wouldnt roll down. I took the tailgate apart and it was a 3 prong switch right under the panel. I bypassed the switch by putting a jumper wire between the 2 outer most prongs if I recall correctly and my window works flawlessly now. Although if you have the top off or tail gate down youll still be able to roll the window up and down. Usually when the top is off I just remove my jumper and disable the window in the down position. It also works great to tint the rear window with the tailgate down. Just need to support the glass somehow.

I was able to dig up the Repair manual today and have a look a the EWD .
There IS a limit switch .. 1 wire (in and out ) red/blue . it slides along the regulator until the window is fully up and then drops . mine was sticking , and needed a good clean with some WD40


window works awesome now ...

Just saw this now, but glad you got it figured out.

"1 wire (in and out ) red/blue" connects one side of limit switch to pin 2 of relay. When switch closes, it connects pin 2 to ground. However, I have not actually checked which position closes the switch contacts, window fully up or window fully down. Were you able to observe which one?

That tailgate key switch worked but console switch did not may have a mechanical cause.
