HID headlamps vs LED headlamps

So I was thinking about throwing on some new lights. Do you guys think that the new LEDs are just as bright and powerful, if not, better than HIDs? I've heard stories of HIDs melting the housing units. And that is a scary thought. I know that LEDs do not run as hot and they can get pretty bright too. What do you guys think?

I have LED bulbs in my 98, I really like them. Much more light than halogen and a nice pure white. They are worth the $ I think. Also compared to how many HIDs some of my friends have gone through they have ended up spending more over all. I also like the instant on thing that you get with LED even though it really does nothing I think it is cool.

I have not heard of the housings melted but I would think that is with the 55w units not the 35w. Just a guess.

I just installed a Xenondepot Extreme 4300 Phillips HID kit in my 2015 and so far could not be happier.

I do not like LED light, it is too monochromatic for me. It looks thin, and the colors are washed out. But that is my personal opinion.

We carry both XenonDepot HID kits and XenonDepot LED Headlight kits. HID is still brighter than LED, a 4300K HID kit is rated around 3200 lumens. Our LED kits by comparison are rated at 2500 lumens. There are also a variety of color temperatures available on bulbs for HID kits. Currently the LED Headlight kits are available in a 6000K color. The HID kit at 4300K would be around 3 times brighter than a halogen bulb, the LED headlight kit about twice as bright as a halogen bulb.

I'm currently in the process of doing this myself. I have a 2015, and the problem I was running into was the fact that the bulbs are side mounted and the factory projectors are halogen . There's only a handful of cars with HID projectors that have side mounted bulbs. I bought 06-09 Lexus IS 250-350 projectors from factoryxenon.com, and some clear lenses from TRS. I did it this way because there is no fabrication needed to get the bulbs into the projectors. If you go with rear mounted projectors there is some custom work that needs to be done to make everything fit. Aside from taking the light housing apart and putting the new projectors in, everything just plugs right in. Hope this helps.
