HID kit help (DDM)

Here are a couple of pictures showing how the 35 watt 5,000K DDM kit compares to Silverstar Ultras. Incase anyone is interested the driving lights are 55 watt 5,000K from DDM.

looks great man! HUGE difference from the silver stars! haha! did you modify the shield at all? i wanna see your light ouput pictures too when you get a chance.
 
No, I haven't done anything with the shield. They were aimed almost exactly the same, so I didn't even bother.

The light pattern is horrible. Ha. I might try and work on it tonight, but I doubt there is much I can adjust.
 
haha damn those aftermarket headlights! Thats so wierd that put off such a bad pattern??

I was going to mention that DDM is selling projectors for $100 now i dont think it comes with bulbs though... and im not sure if there is a projecto for our h4 bulbs. one day.. one day...
 
I saw a thread on Yotatech or 120 or somewhere and it had projectors that were really easy to install. It was basically plug and play. The only thing holding me back from them were having to bake them in an oven.
 
would it fit our H4 bulbs? cause im really considering this now,

Reading all these haters on HID's in stock housing has got my self consious all fired up haha, Im thinking im blinding people but i really haven't gotten flashed at all.

ah it crazy anyway i was hoping i can get some of yalls input on where i aimed my lights. i raised them up a little (after aiming them way down) so i could see better. here are some pics what do you all think... higher... lower?

the camera makes it brighter than it actually is and its all automatic so i cant really adjust the aperture. This is from 25+ feet away

Those look fine to me. As long as people aren't flashing you, you should be good.

When you come up to someone in the opposite lane do your lights shine inside the other vehicles?
 
no i dont think so, Im still kind of lacking distance as far as light output, but i dont think I want to chance going higher haha,

i guess thats the price you pay running these things without projectors.
 
Just installed my 35w 55k HID kit and am having a problem with my Hella 500s. My Hellas are wired so that the turn on when the brights are turned on. But now since I have installed the HIDs they dont come on. Could this be because of the HIDs or just a wire disconnected somewhere

Did you get just the low kit or hi/low. if you got just the low you don't have hi's anymore and your hellas wont work because of that most likely.

I got the hi/lo kit. The control wire from the hellas is just tapped into the existing high beam wiring behind the headlight.
 
Funny you mention that. When I flip on my highs, the blue light on the dash does not come on. I was wondering if the bulb had burnt out or if the HIDs caused it.

My bet is that your problem and my problem are related.
 
Ok guys I had a 35w low beam 6000k kit and sold it to a buddy and now I have a 55 watt 4500 k hi and low beam kit in my stock 98 housings my question is would the light pattern be better or worse If i took out the stock glare shields in my lights cause with the lowbeam only hid's they didn't come with the glare shield like the new ones so it was fine but now I have the stock and aftermarket shields with the new ones and the output is kinda funky looking so what's your guys opinions? Take out the stock glare shields or leave them??

I had that same problem when I had the H4 HID kit, that and my stock fogs for some reason wouldn't turn on anymore, I didn't really care so i never looked into it.

But when I was doing my projector retrofit and had to use a volt meter to check which was +12v and what was ground (had to since i used diodes on the high beam relay) on the 4runners H4 connector I noticed that whats known as the common pin (normally ground) became the + and the high beam wire became the ground for the high beams when the highs were switched on...So what im saying is I think if you just change the wire you are tapped into now from the high beam wire to the common pin wire I think your high beam fogs will work.

I think the common pin wire is the right socket/wire when viewed from the front of the H4 socket and the high beam wire is the left socket/wire.

As for the blue light not showing up on the instrument panel that might be because since nothings plugged into the socket anymore its not completing the circuit? im not sure but i would think that would be it.
 
im pretty sure my blue light comes on and clemsonfan has the same setup i believe. however i never use them because the way i aimed them does nothing but spray out more glare and less light to see :eek: im thinking it may of burned out?

1bad4r thats a good question i was wondering the same thing while installing them. with your new aftermarket shield are you talking about the casper shield?

your probably going to get all kinds of crap for running a 55W kit in stock housing but ill be nice :) IMO running a 55W kit without any shields would be bad news... im pretty sure you would burn a hole through anything in front of you, figuratively speaking... lol

With just the aftermarket one im not sure it would reflect as well. My shields that came with the bulbs aren't reflective on the inside. its more like a flat black i think.

if you just did the stock shield im thinking you may be getting flashed quite a bit, but i duno if thats the case because dont you have frosted housing?

That sounds like a good explanation. That's probably the cause.
