HID kit help (DDM)

Yeah I got the Raptor kit. Now I kinda wish I had saved the extra $15 on the hi/lo part. I dont even use the hi beams now...

I'm debating between getting the HI/LO kit too. I hardly ever use it, but it's only $15. I'd rather not regret it later.

GottaBeTRD- The light that I posted in that picture? I retrofitted HIDs into some new driving lights I got. I put 55 watt 5,000k HIDs into a pair of Hella 700s. I'm going to aim them tonight and hopefully get some pictures up.

I almost forgot. When I ordered my kit from DDM they were out of the ones that I order. They had a date on their site when they would start shipping again. It was like two weeks away or something. They ended up shipping the next day. That was a nice surprise.

You won't regret it! Trust me, there's going to be a time when you're glad you spent the extra $15 for them. It's not a lot of money and if you saw what they looked like without the hi/lo, you wouldn't regret the purchase.

You have the DDM HI/LO kit?

Is the high a lot brighter than the low?

Pictures?

Oh so that little bulb was your original in the hella's? Thats a cool idea I may have to rig some 3000K's in my Piaa's later on.
I think I'm gonna order my lights today. I'm gonna go with the 4500K hi/lo kit i gotta do it its been rackin my brain! Lol!

Yup. That little bulb on the left was replaced by the longer one in the middle.

Are you going regular or slim ballast? Why 4,500K?

Y'all are making me want to get some for my headlights now. Ha.

I would like regular ones I just didn't see any options to choose the regular. How can you pick?
As for temp I think 4500K would be better in bad weather and all around... Plus i like the color the Prius has, I dont know though, now ya got me thinking again lol:ybrick:
I've read around that DDM marks the 4500K and 5000K the same and people have been getting more blue or more yellow that they would of liked so i guess it will a surprise :)

I do have a DDM HI/LO Kit. I don't currently have any pictures on my computer, there was a thread where I posted them but can't find it. I can take some tonight. It's not a ton brighter than the low but it stretches farther down the road and if you don't go hi/lo you're high beam will be a regular bulb color but will be a lower lighter of beam than your stock lights now. It's terrible.

DDM Tuning : HID Kits

On the second row. The Apexcone ones are the regular ballast and the DDM ones are the slim ballast. $10 difference.

I've just seen more people go with 5,000 than 4,500. I know my 55 watt 5,000 are pretty white. I'm trying to decided if I'd go up to 6,000K for my headlights.

98'4runnerSR5- So even if you get the regular H4 kit they'll give you a halogen bulb for high beam? I thought you just wouldn't have a high beam.

I have a 35w 6000K kit and in my original 97' housings they dispersed the light evenly but my housings had mud and condensation inside so I opted for the nice blacked out crystal type but they are horrible for HID's. They throw the light in a scattered pattern. Next I'm going to do the projector retrofit and throw this kit in a set of 8" off road lights.

DO NOT get any kits from Ebay that claim to be hi/low HID. They must be "bi-xenon". That means the shield is moved to direct the light higher for high beams. The bulb doesn't get any brighter and they're not dual filament. The ones I have now are dual filament with the high beam being a ****ty halogen that never gets used.

Here's the kit I'm getting soon. H4 9003 HB2 Bi-xenon projector HID CONVERSION Kit Hi/Lo - $149.99 : Car Parts Lights
35W/6000k factory 97 housings

Besides the size I don't think there is much of a difference. I think the slim ballasts are fully digital though.

Jon- Those links don't work. I am interested to see the HIDs in the newer housings though. Have you tried to aim them?

Jon so how can you get those Projectors to fit in the stock housing without "damaging" as it says? i like the idea though... I for sure want to do that down the road

just disabled the DRL's now im gonna order the HID's, woo woo! i think im gonna get some LED's for the corner and licence plate lights too. so they match. If i dont my OCD will for sure kill me :jump:

I can't for the life of me find the darn thread I saw it on but you remove everything from the housing and bake it in the oven at 300 for about 25min and separate the glass from the housing and put the projector lens in and screw on a hold down nut to the back. Reseal and rebake and when it's out of the oven you hold it together with ample pressure for a couple min with gloves on and ur done.

oh ok i have seen someone do that on youtube. i almost thought those just fit in the factory hole. I think down the road im gonna buy an extra set of light housing and attempt the projector retrofit and also add some other stuff to enable a good looking DRL ot something...

just ordered the 35 watt H4 4500K hi/lo kit. and some LEDS to match,
Clemsonfan i read in some other thread here that this hi/lo kit uses a halogen Highbeam... somehow... and the bi xenon uses the same bulb for the highbeam.

I ordered these this morning and just got the confirmation they have been shipped. I spent alittle more for 2 day shipping because it was only a $4 difference. I hope to get them in soon and Ill post pictures, even a comparison of both my cars with one having the 4500 with stock housing and the other with 5000k in a projector housing

You cant beat that $35 price, Very excited for these

You ordered the slim ballast and got the H4 with the additional $15 charge?

I'm pretty sure that uses the same bulb for high and low beam.

Na I almost did, I just went with the apexicone ones. The digital seem to be a better more advanced system but since I wanted sone LEDs I just got the cheaper ones. I am curious how the highbeams work. I thought it just adjusted the bulb but others are saying it's a different bulb??? Duno.
Are you gonna get some Clemsonfan? Ive seen your post in almost all the HID threads I thought you had them already
Dang I kinda wish I would of paid the extra now for quicker shipping. All I here is the long time it took to ship

Ha. I've done a lot of reading about HIDs. I'm seriously considering getting some for Christmas.

My 55 watt 5,000K is pure white in color. I think I'm going with 5,000K if I get HIDs.
