HID kit help (DDM)

Yep. I was looking around their site yesterday or the day before and the slim ballast is gone. The only option is the "regular" ballast. I wonder what happens if we have to send our "slim" ballast back.

well, the regular ballast seems to be for BMW, Acura and Audi only...

the toyota ones were under the slim ballast... will the thicker ballasts work??

I hope there isnt some kind of issue with the slim ballast . I just installed mine, they were easy to hide. And work great for now...

Hopefully they are just out of stock ...

im pretty sure my blue light comes on and clemsonfan has the same setup i believe. however i never use them because the way i aimed them does nothing but spray out more glare and less light to see  im thinking it may of burned out?

1bad4r thats a good question i was wondering the same thing while installing them. with your new aftermarket shield are you talking about the casper shield?

your probably going to get all kinds of crap for running a 55W kit in stock housing but ill be nice :) IMO running a 55W kit without any shields would be bad news... im pretty sure you would burn a hole through anything in front of you, figuratively speaking... lol

With just the aftermarket one im not sure it would reflect as well. My shields that came with the bulbs aren't reflective on the inside. its more like a flat black i think.

if you just did the stock shield im thinking you may be getting flashed quite a bit, but i duno if thats the case because dont you have frosted housing?

yea im like one of the only ones running a 55w in my stock housing but i ran my 35 w 6000k kit for close to a year and just wanted to have my high beams back so i said heck ill get 55w too and its honestly not bad glare at all beings that i have the frosted lens...i guess i will have to be the guinea pig and try it with just the aftermarket shield and just the stock shields ill let you guys know what i come up with

yeah man just as clemson said you can run the raptor kit (reg ballast) ive got that kit and it works great!

Funny you mention that. When I flip on my highs, the blue light on the dash does not come on. I was wondering if the bulb had burnt out or if the HIDs caused it.

My bet is that your problem and my problem are related.

I noticed that my dash led doesn't come on either. I drove with my brights on the first night I installed my HIDs because I didn't know they were on. I tried to switch to my brights and realized they were already on

Im curious what do you mean by stock shield?...do you mean that metal (looks plastic but mine was metal) dome cap that has screws holding it in place near the H4 spring bulb holder?

The ballasts that came with my kit didnt have any holes on them so they could be mounted. Whats the best way to mount the ballast and situate it and all the wires? right now my ballasts and wires are all zip tied together and just sitting behind each of the headlights. I dont feel comfortable with them there.

I used 3M double sided tape. I put them on the side walls of the engine right above the wheel wells basically. Seems to be a decent spot.

Yea but mine looks different than yours cause mine is a 98 with frosted lenses

Some quick feedback on my experience thus far...

I'm on my second wiring harness because when I turn on my lights, they don't come on until the third or fourth try. DDM said it was probably the harness, but so far that hasn't helped. What really stinks is I secured the ballasts so if they end up being the problem it'll take some effort to pull them out.

My bright light indicator doesn't come on like some others said...anybody found a fix for that yet? I thought it wouldn't be a big deal, and it probably isn't but it'd be nice to have it work.

I have the JDM headlights...and I'm having a lot of trouble getting them adjusted. This isn't related to the DDM kit, but it is an observation about the light pattern being kind of vague with these headlights.

By the way, I got the slim 55W 6000k hi/lo system...in case anyone needs to know.

Is it just one side or both?

I assume you're referring to the first issue with the lights not coming on...it's both most of the time. When I spoke to DDM about it, I was convinced it was both all the time but last night I was parked in front of a glass office building and when I turned my lights on, they both flashed and the passenger side stayed on. After two more tries, the driver's side stayed on. All that being said, once they both come on, I can turn them off and on with no problem. Seems to be when they "cool" down that I have the issue.

That's strange. If it was just one side acting up then you could trace it down to the ballast.

So the new harness didn't fix the problem?

im thinking it could be the 55watt power running with the stock headlight harness? Clemson arn't your driving lights using an aftermarket harness?

Anyway, Fonerunner... depending on the intallation of my retrofit; if i end up not usng my harness that came with my kit ill hit you up. I know it works but i dont know if there is a difference in the hi/lo relay harness with 35watt and 55watt???
