HID kit help (DDM)

Yes, that is true. I'm not sure if it matters though. The ballast should be getting power if there is a relay in the circuit.

I could be wrong though. I have seen people running 55 watt kits in 35 watt system on in other vehicles, so I didn't think it mattered.

The harness I have is the one they sent for the 55W kit. I didn't replace the wiring, just the control box at the top of the harness. Next thing I do is replace the whole thing and see if it makes a difference. Thanks for the offer of your harness though TRD...I don't think yours is different than mine though.

I know the whole system is getting power cause both the headlights flash when I turn them on. Its like they don't catch the first time...the next tries I see nothing until they actually come on.

Been following this thread for a while now, I got a DDM Slim Ballast 35w 6000 kit installed on my truck and have run into the same two issues many others are having.

1. High Beam indicator Light No Longer Functions

2. Stock Fog Lights No longer Come on.

Oddly enough, my stock fog lamp switch activates the high low feature on my DDM Kit. Anyone have that issue?

I think Ill bug my buddy next week (he has wired a pile of electronics etc) and see what he thinks. Looks like we need a write up built to fix this as I'm now the 4th or 5th guy to have this same issue.

Let me be clear I am by no means saying I can do it, but I will give it the old college try!

Scotty and I had/have the same problem with one light not coming on. It would take me 3 to 4 cycles of the switch to get them both on. The guy I talked to at DDM, who actually seemed quite knowledgeable, was convinced it was the ballasts.
Scotty is still running his and is supposed to put my good ballast in to confirm this. I took all their crap outta my rig and went back to old faithful, which turns on every single time I hit the switch.
For me, the light gain wasn't worth the hassle of wondering if this kit would someday completely fail on me when I needed it. Between my fogs and my ultra's I can see just fine.

Thorrider had this same issue as you, its about 4 pages back, im not sure if he fixed it or not, i wonder if it has something to do with the slim/digital ballast? cause my hi-beam indicator still comes on and the fogs still work?? kinda crazy??

Maybe because both of the plugs aren't used it trips something in the system and the light doesn't come on. I'm still able to flick the switch and get my brights.

It doesn't really bother me. I hardly ever use the brights and when I do I just remember to flip them back to normal.

Has anyone tried to flash the brights with the lights off? I know it's bad for the HIDs, but I wonder if it would work.

you know i was wondering the same thing. plus what about when the alarm goes off or you hit your panic button? I think the headlights flash when that happens dont they?? i actually hit my panic button on accident the other day and it may have been my ears at the moment but the horn sounded kinda funny? sounds fine when the truck is on...????

Alright so I have a slight rant to vent here:

I ordered my kit while I was out of town and the kit arrived a week before I did. I didn't install the kit the moment I arrive home, I waited a few days because I guess I was a little busy. Who knows really...but when I did install them I had problems from the first time I tried to turn them on. They don't fire on the first try and its both lights. So the very next day I called about it and was sent a new harness. It makes sense that since both lights are acting up that the problem probably was the harness but as it turned out it didn't help. Today I finally got them to answer the phone and agree to replace the slims with the raptors...except because I waited more than 7 days to complain there is no advance replacement. That is unless I want to pay another 15 dollars.

I guess the moral of this story is, install them AS SOON AS YOU GET THEM!! If they don't work, CALL THEM IMMEDIATELY!! Otherwise you'll get stuck paying bogus fees...

Thanks for your kind attention...:driving:

Both of the grounds were good?

Yep...all the connections are fine and the grounds are solid. Brian at DDM, super nice guy, says that the slims are more finicky about the current(?) required at startup where the raptors have a capacitor that makes them more forgiving. The slims he said are digital in where the raptors are analog in...if that makes sense. I think I understand what he means...the stinky part is I have to now go find a pair of bulbs to use while I ship the whole kit back...and I pay for shipping! All of this because I didn't get them installed and a complaint registered within seven days of receiving them.

That's weird. I have two sets of slims and neither have problems. You must have just had really bad luck since both of them are bad.

What temperature did you go with?

Well, the feeling I have now is that they're not bad, just incompatible for some reason. They do eventually come on, so Brian at DDM seems to think that my truck just isn't providing whatever the slims need. Thats why he said the raptors will be better because they are more forgiving. I've heard that from others as well...

I got the 6k if I remember right...hahaha...I had to go look at my order!

Gotcha. It's weird how they will work in some 3rd Gens and not others.

Hope the new ballasts will work for ya.

He was saying stuff like DRL's and other stuff will sometimes cause issues but you and I don't have that stuff in our 98's so who knows...I'll post up when I get the new ones installed and let y'all know how it works out.

yeah man that sucks to here about that. Is DDM selling their slim ballast still?
last time i checked they discontinued them. but i hope you get it figured out bro that stuff frustrates the hell out of me!

I love my DDM slim kit so much I just ordered a set for my civic, but I guess they dont have slim ballasts anymore.

Just "raptor" kit, but they are on back order till the end of the month.

I think I read that DDM is restructuring their website so they took down the slim ballasts. They might put them back up sometime.

I just ordered a set of the Apexcone 35W 4500K H4 Hi/Lo. I want lots of visible light, and don't care about color, so I figured 4500k was the way to go!

after browseing this thread i decided to order the DDM raptor kit..35w 5000k..and its freakin nice...dont know why it took so long to make the switch..after the install i ordered a pair for my suburban...
