HID upgrade, which one to go with?

I see this thread seems to be continually bumped over the past couple years so I don't feel bad throwing in a comment I suppose. I've only had my 4Runner for a week now but I'm already disgusted with how weak the headlights are. In fact, until I read this thread, I didn't even realize there was a halogen bulb in the projector. I have a guy I use for all my lighting mods, and he suggested TRS. So I'll be installing an HID kit for my low beams, and drop in replacement projectors for the fogs as well. My guy also said TRS is coming out with a dual function drl/high beam led this summer too. So that's something to look forward to...

You will be quite satisfied with TRS HID's in your Low beam projectors.

Perfect. I noticed there were a couple reviews on the website from 4runner owners so that's what solidified it for me. I think I'm going to get the yellow film as well and if I don't like it, I can peel it off

I'm running Rigid Industries DOT/SAE approved led fogs, has a really nice cut off and is pretty wide and wont blind oncoming traffic

How do those mount? Are they cubes? I want something that looks factory.

they are cubes with rounded covers, mounted the same as the stock fogs. If you want something that looks factory the XB would be the better choice

I wish there was a way to add a lower low-beam, for many settings i feel like my headlights are too bright now and there are times when the DRL's don't have enough light but i feel like my lowbeams have too much now. When I'm in traffic or in the city (sometimes I do parking lights with DRL's, but that's not always bright enough) I want a way to turn on something in between.

Anyone else had this thought?

Maybe I'll just upgrade the fogs some and mod them so i can turn them on with the parking lights

Finally got my 35W Morimoto low beam HIDs, Morimoto 2 Stroke drl/high beams, and drop in Morimoto led projector fogs with yellow lamin-x installed. First impression... awesome. I wish Toyota put this effort in at the factory. Here's a quick comparison my fiancée made.

Love mine!! Just installed one side (low beams) to see difference between that and, although decent quality, LED's I purchased. Our housing, since the bulb is inserted sideways, and I got LED'S with a fan on the back part of the housing that almost butts up with the housing cover, flickers, mostly on start up and was just not bright enough. Flickering was not the cars fault as only one did it and switched when I swapped them. Good quality HID's are the way to go. Got mine at xenon depot, 6500k, without can bus (although the extra resistor indicates it came with it anyway and used it). The instructions say to check manufacturer wiring to see if the pin needs to be flipped around on the resistor. It does. The harness that comes out of the headlamp (at least on the 2016 model) black is positive and red is ground, luckily checked with my power probe, as instructions indicate that it will fry capacitors of the unit. Pictures to follow. Gotta use my desktop. Left led on one side and HID on one side and LED on other for comparison

I just placed an order with TRS after speaking with Carlos there.
Everyone has to succumb to their own personal preferences! :lol:
I was informed of no heat issues in the 2014 T4R OEM halogen projectors with the 50W ballasts & bulbs.
I also went with the XB35 bulb because it is a better bulb.

H11: Morimoto Elite HID System

Ballasts: 2 x AMP: Morimoto 5Five DSP
Bulbs: 2 x H11: XB35 5000K
Harness Type: 1 x HD Relay: H11/H9/H8

Just placed my order with TRS. I did call and talk to them first and they did say, although not currently known for sure, there could be heat issues with the stock projectors over time. They also told me 35W is the standard for OEMs for HID lighting. However, if you off-road alot you might want the extra juice of 50W.
Remember over-clocking your CPU? 50W is kinda like that. So, again personal preference.

Also ordered the Morimoto LED Fogs. Thanks for all the info here! It really helps me make good upgrade decisions! :bravo:
