HID upgrade, which one to go with?

For 2010+ I think the DRL should be run on the high beam bulb, so you can do the low beam HID conversion and not need CANbus. Because of the delay/warm up required for HID, they don't make a good high beam substitute anyway. For those either a premium halogen bulb or LED upgrade. I just ordered a set of PIAA Xtreme White Plus halogens for my high beams, pics after the install this weekend.
 
I'm guessing that you will find the 4300k a little bit to "Warm" in color if you're trying to match the LEDS -- so I would go with 5000k.

You will not get "instant output" from HID's in your Hi Beam location.
There are "quality" LED options for your Hi Beam location!

If you decide to go with the Kensun I have both head and fog light kits available both are brand new never used :dancin:
 
I went with the retrofit source. I can't complain. High quality product and ease to install.

This is rarely done, as HIDs have a period of a few seconds before they reach full-on, but more so because 'flashing' them may damage the bulb. HID bulbs do not work like halogens.

The best answer is a Bi-Xenon projector, but unfortunately the 2013+ redesign is not nearly as friendly to this as was the 2010+.

There are a couple members who have retrofitted 2013+ with RX350s, but I don't remember if this is a Bi-Xenon. Maybe one is following this thread ... it is not cheap.
 
I went with the Xenon Depot Xtreme HID kit and 4300 Phillips bulbs. Upon initial install one of the bulbs flickered. I swapped ballasts around and the flicker followed the ballast. Xenon Depot shipped me out a replacement ballast right away, great customer service and support of product. Hoping to do the install with the new ballast this weekend. Looks like a great kit. In my previous 4Runner I had Xenon Depot's Volt kit and that was great, never an issue. Don't think you can go wrong with Xenon Depot.

I have been thinking about this. I didn't think it would be cheap, but I didn't know flashing the HID was bad for it. LED seems to be the way to go, my current dilemma is that my low beams(HID) wash out my high beams.

I thought the same thing after I put in the XD HID kit. I haven't decided which LED kit to go with for highs, but in the mean time popped in a set of PIAA Xtreme White Plus Halogen bulbs. Was able to get them for $50 on Amazon. They're obviously not the same color or intensity of the HID, but they're much closer and brighter than stock bulbs. The center of the beam pattern is still washed out by the low beams, but they throw light that the HID lows don't (high and wide). In those areas it's obvious you're adding light when you flick the highs on. I will probably still put in an LED kit down the road, but I didn't want to fiddle with it quite yet. I'm waiting until there's an LED kit that doesn't flicker or operate at full intensity in DRL mode.

I'm looking at the Morimoto 2stroke kit, but I don't know. I haven't seen a lot of testimonials about LED headlights around here.
 
I can't compare the LED to the HID but I just installed the XenonDepot HID kit with Phillips 4300K bulbs. They are super bright and worth every penny!!

I do have them brand new in the box never installed (new headlights came with bulbs and HID kit) the Kensun are 35W 8000K

I tried the Kensun and was not happy with them at all. Their ballasts made a high pitch whine sound and the bulbs almost melted. I returned them immediately and bit the bullet and went with Xenondepot's brand. Never a problem and had them in for some time now. I also went with LED fog lights.
