Anyone with the XenonDepot HID 5000k HID kit for more than a year? How are they holding up in terms of issues of any sort?
HID upgrade, which one to go with?

Had the XD 4300k Philips kit installed for a year and a week now. Still can't believe I waited so long to do it. Still putting out great light and have had no issues. I've ended up installing their kit in 3 other vehicles now as well (another 4Runner and 2 Outbacks).

Are you running with or without the relay harness?

Installed with the relay. Not required, especially with the DC Engineering 270amp alternator I have installed. But why not have more regulated power source by tying into the battery? On my other installed with factory alternators I always use the relay.

For the ones who installed the TRS version. I did my back in 2014 December. After almost 3 years I'm having to replace my.
Just the other day one of the bulbs went out. The other remaining light is now green in hue. I chatted with the TRS guys and it they told me life span is usually 3-5 years if you daily drive your car. I went ahead and re-ordered an entire new H11 retrofit kit and going to install it again. I guess $150 every 3 or so year is not bad given how much light comes out.

I installed my XD HID Kit last night and LED High Beams. Disabled DRL's while at it by bending the Pin2 in the relay.
Anyhow, I got everything fired up without a harness on the first run. Turned lights off manually and turned them back on and BAM...only 1 light stays on. Flipped the headlight switch a few times and after 5-10 tries, it will fire up the driver side once in a while.
I have been reading posts and see some use the harness and some don't. I decided to try the harness on the one side that is consistently not turning on thinking it would help with the power draw...nope.

- Check Wiring > I did.
- Add Relay/Harness > I did. Same results.

So as of now, the passenger side is the side that operates normal. No issues. Ill swap ballast tomorrow wit the one thats not firing up and see if the issue switches sides.

I would go ahead and swap the bulbs just to rule them out. For some reason the drivers side isn't getting the voltage required to the bulb to ignite.
When you say it doesn't ignite, does the bulb flash at all?
If you're still using the relay on the drivers side, I would double/triple check for a good, clean battery connection and a ground connection, e.g., dirt between the ground and the chassis.
There's only so many pieces to the puzzle here: (2) bulbs, (2) ballasts - ruled out, (2) relay harnesses, and then each connection per side: positive lead from the battery to the relay, the relay ground, the relay input to the ballast, the OEM connection as the trigger to the relay, the ballast AMP output/input to the bulb.
EDIT: I re-read your second post where you removed the relay. Go ahead and swap the bulbs and then double check your OEM input connection to the ballast. Once you've ruled out the bulbs and ballasts, that's the only other thing I can think of.

Sorry to hear you are experiencing some issues with your HID kit but we can look at a few things to narrow it down.
1- Did you install the relay harness on both sides? If not I would recommend running the relay on both sides to ensure they both get power directly from the battery.
2- Besides the ballast which we know is good since the issue didn't follow it, have you tried to swap the bulbs?
3- It could be an isolated case where the issue is with the connection to your factory harness which is the trigger wire (Black and Blue wire) with the H11 plug on it.

I bought some super generic H11 Bulbs from CL today. As soon as I swapped them, it worked without a hitch. Turned it on and off numerous times without problems.
I want to say the connector or bulb is bad. Visually looking at it, I can't really say any of the pins look off or bent or bad.
Rocking some generics for now - but at least it turns on and off. The grommets are definitely smaller - so hope to get some Philip replacements if possible.
No harness/relay on either side. Yay for now.

Installed a Xenon Depo kit on the driver-side yesterday, Extreme ballast with Philips 4300k bulbs. I'm particular with lights so wanted to see them side by side. For comparison, the passenger-side is a Sylvania Silverstar Ultra bulb. I'll preface this by saying I've never been a fan of HID's in non-HID housings, in fact I've often been a vocal critic of it. With all the positive feedback regarding the 5th gen projectors though I decided to give it a shot, knowing I could sell the kit if I wasn't happy.
Overall there is a noticeable increase in output. I'm not terribly impressed with the cutoff of these headlights, even with halogens. There is an increase in intensity above the cutoff with the HID but doesn't seem unnecessary so. That is, it's about what I'd expect with an overall increase in output, so that's saying something about how these stock projectors handle the HID. Is it enough to cause problems for oncoming drivers I don't know yet, but my initial reaction is it's probably OK.
I plan on installing the other side today and running them for a month or two to see how I feel after driving with them for awhile. I retrofitted bixenons into another vehicle and compared to the 4Runner it's like driving with suns attached to the bumper, however there's something to be said for the simplicity of keeping it plug and play. Hope that helps anyone on the fence.

Thank you for the feedback so far!
The light above the cutoff is expected as that is the design of the projectors to help with road signs from what I understand. With the HID being brighter then there will be more light above the cutoff but I don't think it's enough to cause any issues for oncoming traffic. With the amount of installs we've had with the 4runner over the years, the feedback has been great.
Having said all that, would love to hear what you think after an extended period of usage.

With all of this talk of HID headlights I think its time to start my research. I cannot stand the output of the factory lights, especially now that I have Baja Designs in the fog location which limits my usage in traffic. I am REALLY cautious about blinding on-coming traffic, it is the sole reason I have not yet upgraded.
