HID upgrade, which one to go with?

With all of this talk of HID headlights I think its time to start my research. I cannot stand the output of the factory lights, especially now that I have Baja Designs in the fog location which limits my usage in traffic. I am REALLY cautious about blinding on-coming traffic, it is the sole reason I have not yet upgraded.

As long as you aim your lights down a bit you will be fine. They key thing is getting that cutoff line below people’s eyes.

How much of an issue are folks having with HID bulbs wobbling when going over bumps? I feel like my bulbs are reacting an awful lot to road input. HID's are physically longer so I know some of this is to be expected, but in general have very many of you noticed this?

I never experienced “bulb wobble” with either the HID’s I have now or had in the past. The fitment of the bulb to housing, if manufactured well, should not allow that.

Well, through all of my skepticism I decided to go with the [MENTION=12905]XenonDepot[/MENTION] extreme kit with Philips 4300 bulbs. I am eager to see if they effectively remedy my light output woes!

DRL on these is through the high beam bulb (9005). So you can do anything you like to low beam (H11) and fog lights (H16) without issues.

On the high beam Toyota uses a pulsed 12v signal to keep the high beam at lower lumen output using standard halogen bulbs (the filament never fully heats up or cools down). When you install LED's in the high beam you'll get a flicker in DRL mode, the LED turning on and off rapidly with the pulsed 12v signal. In high beam mode they will work just fine. You can live with the flicker or install a module (effectively a large capacitor) to keep a constant 12v signal to the LED (runs at full brightness in DRL mode). HID is not recommended for the high beam or DRL application due the lack of instant on/off brightness.

This can either be caused by the headlights in certain cases or by the HID bulbs not being securely locked in the housing. I would start by swapping the rubber o-rings between the HID bulb and the halogen bulb to see if that helps with the fitment.

Thanks, I can give that a try. I have a winch bumper up front and was thinking perhaps the added weight of that could be causing the headlights to react more to bumps as well, but I don't recall having it happen with the halogen bulbs.

You can also switch your high beams over to slightly modified Philips 9011 HIR bulbs for a bump in performance, while still maintaining DRL Functionality.

I am still having bulb shake problems , tried everything that was recommended by xenon depot and they still shake like crazy over small bumps even . Thinking about going back to stock .

I upgraded my low beams to a HID kit from xenondepot and chose to upgrade to the philips 4300k bulb. Had to wait an extra 2 weeks because the bulbs were on back order but it was worth the wait and xenondepot was very helpful with keeping me updated. I think it is a MUST do upgrade, they have been great for the last 3 months.

do your bulbs have o-rings? are you installing then rotating? are you sure it's not the headlight housing that is shaking?

Yea I inserted bulb then rotate to lock in , thats What it seems like to me the whole headlight shakes because I can jiggle the whole headlight by hand ? Does anyone else have problems with bulb shake here ?

if the whole housing moves that is a separate issue from the bulb

did you maybe move the adjustment screw too far?

I received my kit for Christmas yesterday. I was told it was the Phillips bulbs but nothing on or in the box says Phillips. Did your kit come with anything saying Phillips or anything to indicate it has the Phillips bulbs?

There are no indications on the bulb but I believe it has to do with the blue/black wiring coming from it.

I do have the same problem on my 2015 4Runner and 2017 Highlander as well, swap bulbs, same shit. The slightest bump I can see it shakes. I don't remember having that problem with my H11A bulbs from TRS, I have been running H11B currently. Maybe I'll find some time to put the H11A back and confirm if I haven't thrown them away on accident.

I just installed Xenon Depot's HID's with 4300k Phillips and used it one a very rutted out road and it shakes a tiny bit but nothing like you are experiencing. Other then that they dont shake at all.
