Hiding a key?

Hey...

Where's a good place to hide a spare key on our 07?

We have one of those magnetic thingies, and we looked under the wheel wells, running boards, etc. We were putting it in the hitch receiver, but when we are using the hitch, THAT'S not going to work...

So... ideas? Thoughts? Suggestions?

get a careabin hook and a key ring put the key on the key ring and then pu the ket on the careabin and then hook it under the truck anywhere under the truck will work. The key might get dirty but it will always be there any nobody will know that it is there.

I might have misspelled careabin wrong. It is the same type of hook people use to rock climb.

This is a precaution that you're never going to have to use, right? :

Don't use a magnetic box; that's just asking to get ripped off. Stick the key in a small plastic baggie, then take some black electrical tape (or duct tape), and tape it to a wire or cable under the rig; totally cover the key so that it isn't recognizable. Once it gets a little road dust on it, it'll just look like part of the system, not a spare key. If you crawl under and look, I'm sure you'll find plenty of hiding spots to use.

I use one of these. I found a spot on the driver's side frame rail where this sits between two upright portions. I had this on my old Silverado, and learned this time to put it in a ziplock baggie to help keep the dirt off of it. The combo dials and cover don't move easily once the unit get's covered in road dirt.

It's obviously not 100% secure, but it is more difficult to get into than a regular hide-a-key, and hopefully will discourage the opportunity thieves.

Also, they key inside is one made at Home Depot, so it won't start the ignition. I use it just to let me back in when I lock myself out.

I did like Iolaus and put mine in a tiny plastic bag, wrapped it in duct tape, and zip-tied it under the rig. You can just find a place in the front or the back.

If you have AAA, they can make a key for you that is a credit card that goes in your wallet...its plastic coated with metal inside and will last about 15-20 times before it wont work anymore

Its not very thick, no1 will get in your truck unless they have your wallet AND know that its there...

plus, its FREE!

That's only going to work for him if he locks his keys inside. I also have an '07, and the dealership told me that the keys have chips in them that are needed in order to start the car. He's better off stashing the 3rd "valet key" somewhere, in case he has actually lost the original.
