Why do you think it'll need valve cover gaskets? Do you have oil buildup around the valve cover sides? I just meticulously went around my engine bay degreasing and noticed a decent amount of buildup on the engine

Valve cover gasket is pretty common, It's an easy fix and doest really hurt anything when its leaking just messy. Mine leak but if you tighten all the bolts it will seal up most. they come loose on their own.

I bought mine with 145k. I did a timing belt water pump change just because. Ive done lower ball joints and my front diff blew up($400 + napa cv's) and I have been good for the last few years.

I have 212k now and she runs good other than needing gearing.

Bought mine a few months ago at 316k. No issues whatsoever. It's my reliable daily driver. I replaced the LBJs just as a precaution because I knew they hadnt been done in at least 100k.

Anything under 270k with original engine and transmission is not even worth mentioning in this thread. That's a good piece of the used 3rd gen market. Nothing groundbreaking.

Bought at 228k a year and a half ago. At 242k now. It's a well maintained truck and had all dealer service for the first 200k. Did all the usual replacements, springs, lbjs, trans cooler, etc. then drove it across the U.S. last year. Best vehicle I've owned. Only problems have been the brakes, they all started seizing one by one and needed replacing.

2002 4Runner purchase

Hey everyone, new to the forum and have been looking for 6 mos for a 3rd-gen 4Runner. Lost a few and finally put a deposit on this one. It's in PA and I'm in IL, planning to fly out next week and check it out. 148k, 1-owner, no wrecks, clean title, all service records on Toyota and Carfax match. Timing belt/water pump done @ 85k, bone stock, ball joint replaced, undercarriage was rust-proofed on delivery back in 2002, minor surface rust on the trailer hitch. Exactly what I want. I don't do a lot of work myself but have a great guy here that I trust. Price looks alright, factoring in rear shocks, tune-up, etc. Thoughts? Wondering too about replacement of the radiator eventually - don't want to worry about the strawberry milkshake and seems like 150K is a good life for the rad. Thanks in advance.
