highest mileage???

Not to hijack the thread but do you folks with 250k + miles still take on road trips? I'm at 206k (only had it 2+ years) but am taking a ~1000 mile road trip next week. Curious if others do this with high mileage as well?

I'm at 215k and I regularly do 2500 mile round trips. I have a bearing going bad right now that I don't have time to fix, or I'd be using it for one this week. Other than that I'd get in it and drive cross country without giving it a second thought. Check the fluids and tires, pack a cooler, and hit the road! lane:

I do it all the time. I'm planning to leave July 2nd for another 1500 mile up and down the west coast. 401,000+ miles on original engine and transmission.

260k+. Dont know what original, but the motor looks to be original. Bought it originally with 200k on the clock. Its been on many road trips and gearing up for another one to utah next.

I bought mine for $5K with 230K on the clock about 4 months ago and just completed a 1600 mile trip down to KY and back with no issues. Installing an in line trans cooler this weekend and will also redo the thermostat jiggle valve at 6pm. Next month will be going on a 1200 mile trip to Black Hills, SD and back, not anticipating any issues...

I know for me I like the 4runner so much the thing will last pretty much as long as I keep putting parts into it.

It would be very interesting to see how long they've made it relatively unmolested.

I should be hitting 388k soon. I use it as a DD and also on all my fishing trips to the OBX (5 hours each way). Still running like a champ.

Regular, timely, maintenance will guarantee you'll make it to 500K and more. Regular oil and filter changes, tranny drain and fills, coolant flushes, plugs, wires, air filter, MAF, T body cleaning, tranny cooler along with other mtx items such as lbj's and you'll be fine. I'm at 338K. Original owner 15 years ago. I wouldn't hesitate to take it cross country.

exactly, I might add that up here in canada, the majority of 4runners leave the road because of rust-related problems. So rust-proofing is high on my maintenance list with all of those.

Vehicles break down whether they are new or old, there are a lot of new vehicles in the shop being repaired so as far as my 4runner goes, unless I am suspecting that something is going or needs to be fixed on it I am not worried about going on a road trip.

I keep up on the maintenance and have had it since just 4000 miles. It was the dealer try it out car.

# biggest things that went out on it was Fuel pump, Ball joints and some sort of $600 gizmo that would not let 4 wheel drive engage.
How much longer do you think???

As for the mileage, these trucks don't really seem to have a hard upper limit. Rust-related problems, accidents and things like pink milkshakes seems to take most of them. If you keep your maintenance to date, you are still good for looooong. Always check your prestone level, probably saved my engine/head gasket by doing so when the rear heater line began leaking.

I have 248,000 miles on my 2000. Just found out I have a cracked rear diff and its leaking all over the brakes. Do I:

A. Sell "as is"
B. Shop around for best price on replacing rear diff and breaks
C. Try to do it myself (not really an option
