I know this question seems very counterintuitive but I am going to be looking for some all terrains very soon b/c after buying my 4runner it still has dunlops on it. I drive 50 miles a day to school but of course i love the look of the all terrains. Which do you think would be the best for me? I know this seems like a weird question but id like some tires that can kinda function to do both on and off road. Not very much offroading. Mostly just very little mud/dirt/grass just to get to fishing holes etc. Also...if theyres anyone else in Louisiana let me know!

There are many AT tires on the market now that have mileage warranties up to 65,000 miles. It's pretty amazing what kind of miles you can get out of a set of AT tires now. The Toyo Open Country AT2, the Cooper Discoverer AT3, the General Grabber AT2...all of these tires will go the distance and have warranties to back it up.
The Cooper is probably the best of that group because in addition to wearing well it also is known to be a low rolling resistance type of tread pattern that will keep MPGs up...yet it can get down in the dirt and work when you need it to.

I just went with the Nitto Crossteks (Only available at Big O, NTB, Tire Kingdom). They are a directional all-season tire with a nice look to them. They have a 60k warranty and are nice and quiet. So far they perform great on road and in wet weather. I dont wheel very often anymore so that wasnt a concern for me when buying these tires. If 99% of your driving is on-road, don't spend the extra coin on ATs or MTs just for the looks. You'll be lighter in the pocket and not happy with the increased road noise. Not to mention the more aggressive of a tire, the faster it will wear.

Another fantastic option is the Hercules Terra Trac ATII. New tire that just came out this summer. This tire is made in the USA, and has a new silica based rubber compound that is backed by a really good mileage warranty. It's got a very aggressive tread pattern, yet it's quiet on the road and bites hard on rainy or snowy roads. Should be a good trail tire as well. There are youtube videos about this tire if you want to see them play in the mud and dirt.
Hercules and Cooper have been affiliated with each other for many decades. All around great tire and can be bought for around $150ish in the P265/70-17 size. The tread is very wide at 8.75" and they are a full 31.2" tall when mounted to a stock wheel. Weight is 40 lbs. so the MPGs will not take a hit. Just a superb tire and when my Kenda MTs are worn I'm going to be running a set of these next.

I have close to 500,000 miles over the course of 3, T4R's using both A/S and A/T tires. I really liked the AT's for winter snow when I lived in PA and Illinois but I also drove a lot of highway. The AT's will take a minor toll in fuel mileage and they also tend to be more noisy.
My favorite AT tire was the Firestone Destination and my favorite AS was a tie between REVO's and Michelin LTX M/S.

Wanna do some more research? My p285/70/17 destination at's are 4lbs lighter than the 285 at2's.

The Destination ATs are 1lb lighter at the stock 265 size. I have no interest in a Firestone product, therefore know nothing really about them. I'll be sure to do a full A/T tire market comparison before I post on a forum board with my opinion in the future.

I run BFG A/Ts, I run load range E, overkill but I tow a lot and I get 75K miles out of my last set. They still had about 30-40% left when I replaced them, they were just starting to crack and look old so I replaced them. They are expensive but definitely worth every single penny!
