Hit by a bus! :-(

Almost exactly the same thing happened to my 2004 4Runner and I immediately bought a new Shrockworks front bumper

Why the push to get an aftermarket bumper? Unless it needed for hard core off roading just get it restored back to new. Not everybody need or wants the aftermarket bumper. I think some of the aftermarket bumper look ugly.

If I lived in New York Id have full steel all around, it's crazy there. Last time I drove there it's amazing how bad most bumpers look.

Go take the money and get a Shrockworks front bumper. Send your pictures to Mark, and maybe he can let you jump the line.
Damn, I hope that doesn't happen. You'll get all sorts of people who want Shrockworks bumpers purposely crashing into things just to jump the 8 month line.

My chick drove in to work and on her way home waiting to get into the Lincoln tunnel some in a hurry dbag driving one of those short access a ride buses turn left in to her and just kept going.

Mostly cosmetic damage, the wheel alignment is screwed up. Cost is $3800 to fix it. The truck is not 6 months old yet.[emoji107]

You need that aftermarket steel bumper for getting on the Staten Island Ferry.

The fender crumple zone probably made the accident less brutal on your girlfriend. It looks like the bus in the foreground has bumper damage from doing just this sort of thing.

Do you have insurance for hit and run drivers? I'd be looking for that bus at the lot where ever these guys park after hours. Shouldn't be hard to spot the bus with the big white streak. He must have sustained some damage too. Here in So Cal we often carry uninsured motorist insurance, but you have to file a police report and get the other driver's info. Doesn't help you with a hit and run. That is a felony though, to leave the scene of an accident.

The last time I was in NYC I did not want to drive. They are reckless and drive fast there. And who can afford to park a car in NYC?:fencing:

In most cities yes, but some city driving is more dangerous than black bear pass!

A steel bumper still isn't indestructible. That hit probably would've destroyed it as well. Even smaller hits are still going to remove powdercoat and cause dents and dings that won't be as easy to fix. Much easier to do PDR on a plastic bumper than to hammer dents out of a steel one ;)

Those steel bumpers are nice. The bus driver stoped, got his information etc.... The truck is a lease, vet I would like to buy it. Not really worried about the repairs.

So he just "kept on going" until he'd completely taken your front end off. Glad to hear he stopped and exchanged info.

Maybe you need that steel bumper with spikes. :pound:

Just kidding. You don't want to hit a pedestrian with a steel bumper. You could be liable for a much more serious injury. You have to drive more conservatively with a steel bumper, IMO.

I'm much better using a hammer personally. But really if some jerk knows they are likely to get more damage than you they may be more careful. In this situation doesn't matter.

You shoul push for a diminution in value claim against the buses insurer. Your value will take a hit, so you should be compensated for the loss in value.

Why not? Here is your chance!

It is just an option put on the table.

If you don't like it, don't do it. It's an option.

Probably pretty low "out of pocket" money.

Could've been worse. I hit a deer to the tune of $13,000 last year. Killed the deer though, so that made me feel a bit better.

Sorry to hear that... hope it all works out well for you.

It looks like the impact occurred from the driver's side towards the center. How did the bus hit the driver's side front while making a left turn? Was it on a perpendicular street and turning left onto your street?

It's a lease, so diminished value won't apply. OP just walk away once the lease is done and let the dealership take the hit (pun not intended).
