Hitch

Hello everyone, this is my first time here, I hope I'm in the right place, anyway if anyone can help with this I would appreciate it.
I have a 2008 4Runner 4x4, V6. I have the bumper that is cut for a hitch but no hitch, the only reason I want to put a hitch on is for my kids to take their bikes on vacation that's all, I will not be hauling anything else. I have a friend who has an OEM hitch, it is one piece that attaches to the crossmember and that's it, looks like the picture I posted. I looked at a couple of sites and this is what I found that looked like what I think I need, I attached a picture of a diagram part number 35 it says trailer hitch looks like it, what I want to know is, am I looking at the correct part on the diagram or am I missing anything else, and part number 36 in the diagram says trailer hitch bolt do I need 6 of these bolts to mount it to the frame??, I contacted the dealer and they wanted to sell me a towing package almost $400.00

Part 35 is the OEM hitch you are looking for which I found for ~$174, and then I would say you need 6 bolts. Do you need the wiring harness for hooking up lights to the bike carrier? Then you would need the wiring harness as well which I found for ~$204. So $400 isn't that far off if you need lights and the hitch.

shootersanks, thanks for the reply, I don't think I need the wiring harness now, I only plan on using it for a couple of bicycles, do you know how much weight this handles.

It's rated as a class 3 hitch which is something like 3-500 lbs tongue weight and 5000 lbs trailer weight...

Wimpy looking isn't it? I was shocked when I crawled under the back of my 4R for the first time and saw that! More than capable for a bicycle rack though.

Hard to believe that is rated to tow 5,000 lbs. But that's what I have on my 03 and I tow my boat which is probably about 3600 lbs just fine.

V6 is rated to tow 5,000 pounds and V8 4x4 7,000 V8 2WD 7,300.

V6 is rated to tow 5,000 pounds and V8 4x4 7,000 V8 2WD 7,300.

You can only tow that if you have WDH style one on the V8 that little one is still rated to 5,000 pounds AFAIK

You may need to have lights on the trailer.
