hitting my head on the rear door of my 2001 4runner

The struts that lift the rear door on my 2001 4runner are giving out and not lifting the door high enough. I got pricing from the dealer and they wanted around $175 a piece for the parts. Has anyone had success with aftermarket brands? Does anyone know how these parts are rated? Is it by the weight they have to lift? Any ideas on what I would need for the 2001 rear door?

Come on some one must have an answer!!!! I have figured out that the part is called a lift support. I have yet to find an aftermarket part-- I've tried Strong Arm, Monroe, Delco, Sachs, etc. They all make gas charged lift supports, but only for t4r-s up to 2000. The price at the dealer ranges from $153 to $180 per side and you should raplace them in pairs.

you may also want to try a camper shell dealer for aftermarket, they will know what spec you need. i use to have a camper shell on my toy pickup that needed frequent replacement of these hatch struts since i always drove with the rear glass up.
