Holcomb Pinnacles Camp 7/7-7/9/17

I was going to post earlier but I didn't want to get people excited for a trip that might be cancelled. It looks like Holcomb Pinnacles Camp wasn't hit by the fire.
I'll be camping near there from 7/7 to 7/9 with a couple other rigs.

It won't be a planned out event. I've only been in the area once before but it's pretty much fire roads from Big Bear to the camp (2WD friendly).

Yeah that fire was right over in that area but fortunately the wind kept a steady onshore flow and kept blowing it towards the desert. Earlier this week the Mart Fire was actually a lot more concerning because it had nowhere to go but up the mountain thru very dense brush; they hammered that one hard or it could have been a bad one.

The Forest Service just raised the fire threat yesterday so that may nix campfires for the season (again) but I don't know that for sure so give the Discovery Center a call to confirm before you get any firewood - unfortunately camping just isn't the same without a campfire at night.

Here's the Holcomb fire looking from GVL (2N13) as it was just starting to roar. I watched a steady stream of FF aircraft including the big DC-10 start pounding this one just moments after this pic. Have fun out there, if I get an open day I'll cruise over and say hi - be safe.

I ended up just going with my friend and his new-to-him 3rd gen. I didn't take many pictures but I got dash cam video of tip top mountain. I'll try to get it on YouTube soon.

Gonna be camping up there this weekend (not quite to pinnacles, but close). Looking forward to it!
