Homemade Window Screens for Camping

We like to camp, but it's such a drag to set up and tear down. I made these real cheap. We went camping with friends and family. We tore down and packed up in 15-20 minutes. (Of course, we then spent 3 hours helping everyone else "tear down" and pack up tents and RVs.) Some places don't want you sleeping in "cars," but this was way more comfortable than a tent. My wife loves it too! To make it I bought a mosquito net at Academy ($10). I went to Walmart and bought some tent-like fabric ($4). I then went to Ace and bought some magnet strips ($15-$20). This made screens for all the windows (even the rear) and the sun roof. I wish I had gotten stronger magnets, but overall this was awesome!!! Once they're on, they're on. I used hot glue to put them together. I actually glued them together on the 4Runner, so I knew they would fit. Here are the pics.

Nice job, something I would definitely do if I planned to sleep in the runner. My son moves around too much though for the two of us to sleep in the back comfortably. Well, he'd be fine, but I'm a pretty light sleeper and in such a tight space he'd be kicking me and knocking into me all night. Tent life for awhile, I think my next purchase for camping is going to be a cot.

Nice!' I did some camping in my new to me 2004 the last few nights on my road trip from Arizona to Michigan. One night was 19 degrees in the desert. Little cold. I'm gonna do something like this for camping in normal weather.

Looks nice, I tried and yours look way better than what I created......I am 6'2 and usually have a bit of trouble getting out when nature calls, find a good way to slide in and out ?

Sorry. Just saw this. We climb in and out of the side doors, but it's difficult for me to get out without waking my wife :fear:

Those look great. I made some myself a few years back and did a pretty poor job of it. I really like how wide you made the magnets at the bottom. Much cleaner than my version. Any chance you could post a link to the actual magnet strips you used?

I tried to make myself something similar however the magnets just didn't work. They fell at the littlest bump. I tried to search for larger magnets, but wasn't having much luck. Nice job.
