Good thread, glad I read through it. Considering running Treadwright's 37's on my Toyota Pickup crawler once my Super Swampers run out of tread. $300 for a 37" tire saves a lot of money on something that wont't be driven on the street more than 10 days a year.
If you don't like your weights on your rim. Which I don't. Especially 12oz. Ditch the weights and get 4 bags of wheel balancing beads. You throw the bag inside the tire and it balances it self out as the tire rotates. It's what most people use with big tires. My friend used it on his 40" tires and it balanced them perfectly.

Brian, how has your luck been getting these balanced? I've had mine for about 10k miles now and they've been excellent off-road, but they've never quite balanced correctly despite multiple shops, haweka adapters, etc. Always just seems to move the shake up or down 5mph. 285/75r16 for reference.
Have you ever used the beads or BBs? I'm considering giving them a try since I can always just take it back to Discount if that doesn't work.

I want to try the beads but with the amount of weights my wheels have on them, I dont think there will be enough beads. LOL. I might try it next time.
Its been an issue only since they started bead to bead wrapping the treadwrights. They balanced really good before that. Every tire shop I asked about it said its was not a big deal because they balanced. I get the weights that tape down on the inside of the wheel so they dont get tore off on the trail.

Sorry about reviving an old thread, but I had my first experience with treadwright tires today and wanted to share. I remove some treadwright wardens off a customers vehicle and found that the “rim protector” had failed and flaps of runner were resting on the face of the wheel and managed to remove the finish down to bare metal on all 4 wheels.
Just a heads up for anyone wanting to put these tires on wheels they care about.

My brother just picked up a set of 35s. One developed a large bubble when we where on the highway. Emailed treadwright and they shipped him a tire no question.
Yes they are cheap. Yes they are ghetto. But so is my 4runner. Between wife's and my vehicle we have ran 5 sets in 8 years. I'll keep running them on the ghetto rig. Wife's 2012 has the duratracs. They took lots to balance also.

Previous owner of my 4Runner had 285/75R16 Treadwrights on it.
He could never get them to balanced properly, but the T4R was his toy (not a commuter) so NFG. One was especially out of whack, and he contacted Treadwright about it, they sent him a replacement without wanting the defective one back. So he got himself a matching spare out of the deal.
He also used Dynabeads for balancing and this never solved the major wobble on the street.
Anyway, fast forward to me owning the rig and started using it more as a second vehicle rather than just a weekend bush toy. The Treadwrights on it at this point were a good 8 years old (the BFG KM cores were anyway). The rubber was getting really dry and cracked, but the tires themselves were holding up pretty well except for the fact that they were so hard. They were a b!tch in the rain. But tread depth was still excellent (they really don't wear down easily).
I've since downsized the tires and am now running a Remold set of 265/75R16's from ETS (Easter Tire Service). These balanced well and are far more streetable.
I would have been curious to see what the Treadwrights I had would have been like in their prime (soft/new rubber).
They may not be the best quality, but it seems to me like treadrights have great durability.
And I quoted you because I agree with you, I mean sure.. it's always nicer to have a good quality set of tires, but it's sometimes really hard to justify a purchase of tires that cost more than what the truck is worth.

The only drawback for me is if I tried to sell my rig. New owner would need to have a safety certification done and in the Province of Ontario, remolds/retreads will not pass safety/certification. It's an automatic fail. It'll need new tires.

Thats why I only stuff beads in the Vajayjay.
Goodyears arent much better, I hate the overpriced brand with a passion.
Hankook, Cooper, General, Yokahama are a few dollars more than Treadwrong when you buy from DTD on their twice a year sale.

Yeah please take advantage of that sale plus rebates. Not into being on the highway when the odds are in favor of retread delamination and a 30 lb piece of recycled trojans molded into a BFG AT comes flying.
