Hood Scoop Seal

Has anybody sealed their hood scoop? Mine allows some water in the engine bay and it leaks onto the belts, making them squeal at start up whenever it rains. Just wondering if somebody has done this already and knows exactly where to seal it. I don't want to goop silicone all over the place hoping to fix the problem.

Just put a bead of silicone around the insert where it meets the hood. Use some gasket maker sealant like Permatex RTV silicone, but my only suggestion would be to clean it right up while it's still manageable or before it hardens..use a small amount around, just enough to fill the gap and run your finger to seal it off completely.

It's water clean up so even if you get some on the vicinity, you can easily wipe it off with a damp rag or tissue.

I allowed the silicone to rubberize and see the result..but I'm fine with it!

Did you take off the insert when you applied the bead? And is that the only area that needs to be sealed? Thanks btw!

I did it with the insert already mounted and screwed on, and that's the only area that I applied silicone over on mine...Really you don't need much!

I took off the scoop and put a thin bead of black silicone all around the edge. Only the two upper corners needed to have excess wiped off. Hopefully this stops the squealing belts and keeps some road grime out of the engine bay. Thanks! Have some rep points from me! :cheers:

i think there are two holes underneath too. thats where i thought it was leaking from?? i hate it when it does that haha
