no hail damage either, but you sure can tell it needed a bath. now it's covered with a bunch of little clean spots from the impact of the hail...

I got caught right in the middle of it here in Arkansas. I was driving down the interstate and it hit hard. Worst storm I've been caught out in for sure. Surprisingly, the 4runner only has about 4-5 dings. With the size/amount of hail I was driving in, I can't believe there was nothing more. Got lucky, that's for sure.

Its really bad down here. I live right off Research Park around Madison. I saw one of the big ones from my deck right before I took shelter. I had to listen to the roar of the tornado go by till I came out due to lack of electricity. Luckily, it just missed my apartments to the North.
They said power will probably be out 6-7 days (hopefully not but seems likely given the damage). The body count is 204 in Al alone and growing. Tuscaloosa got the worst though with the EF5.
Its funny you mention the 4Runner being damaged. Before the the actual tornadoes came, all I could think about was the forecasted large hail and the possible damage to the truck. Then, while I was laying in the bathtub listening to the tornado roar past, I actually thought....take the 4runner, i don't care....just get me out of here. Ha

6 or 7 days? That's not so bad, they're saying 2 weeks at my house. I don't know if there is one power pole standing in my neighborhood.
I had to show ID with my address on it to get to my house.
This guy's 4runner wasn't so lucky...
but I think he was more concerned about his house...
I'm really lucky, I only had a broken window and a tree on my fence. Some of the people behind me and two streets over are homeless. My house was literally right on the edge of the destruction.

living in arizona i have never had to crouch into a bathtub and listen as a tornado rolls by. that just sounds nuts to me...
the worst ive ever been in was when i lived in cali and an earthquake happened. and apparently i slept through it. sooo crazy what happens outside your bubble and you dont even realize it. opens your eyes.
and to think... i was complaining about it being 93 degrees and me having to use my a/c today... how pathetic.

Good to hear you're okay Gaterose. I knew you had to be close to that monster. The preliminary tornado reports are in for a few tornadoes and one of the ones that came by here was an EF4 at 190mph (only 10 mph less than EF5 Category!). Scary to think about given that the only way you can really be safe in these large tornadoes is a) don't be in its path and b) get underground. The first is easier said that done given some of the them were ~1 mile wide.
From what i've seen, you guys easily had an EF5 down there. It may even end up being towards the top end of that scale. Scary stuff...makes you think about whats really important and lets you know who's in charge (ie...def not the guy making a special visit here today

Close just doesn't describe it... I posted some pictures of my neighborhood in this thread.
It's really unbelievable how little it looks like Tuscaloosa, all the wide open shots used to be filled with trees.

Don't know if anyone caught yesterday's NBC Nightly News, but a couple was in the middle of the storm at a shopping strip parking lot in their 4th gen 4runner. The husband held onto the steering wheel while his wife grabbed onto him and their 4Runner rolled over several times in the parking lot. They were interviewed in front of their 4Runner still laying on its side and both were unharmed.
