I was changing my bulbs to LEDs in my gauge cluster, and when taking the lower trim off, I noticed a plug behind where the gauge brightness knob is. It wasn't plugged into anything, and I didn't/couldn't see anywhere that it should plug to.

I have it too, don't worry.

I have heard a couple different things as to what it is...

The one I like most, is that it's for the power mirrors on base base base models with manual windows. The mirror switch would be relocated to that large blank under your dimmer switch.

I don't know... It's not important though, I promise.

I, too, have that same unused harness ('96 SR5 without heated mirrors) and have not (yet) noticed any detrimental effects from not having anything plugged into it...

The harnesses for a lot of these trucks came wired with a lot of other options.

I couldn't tell you what 4Runner came with what wiring. Potentially could be anything from seat heaters, rear diff lock, mirror switch, clutch start cancel, etc. I think some are only wired up until the junction block or the fuse box and need to be completed for functionality.

Good to know. Thanks gents. Never noticed any kinds of problems before, but just happened upon it and wanted to make sure it wasn't supposed to be plugged somewhere
