Hi guys just wanted to let you know I swapped both of the horns in my 97 4runner with 2 MIXO (1 LOW 1 HIGH) horns out of a 97 Land Rover Discovery (also in a 97 98 99 Range Rover) they sound FANTASTIC much louder and MUCH better tone! little deeper and more high class euro sounding they are like 5$ each at the yard and really easy to install. really nice mod. :D

For me personally there's just something so wrong putting land rover stuff in a yota but its nice to know you don't have to live with roadrunner when you honk

I've got a set of Hella Supertones that have been in my garage for years. Maybe one day I'll throw them on. The one I put on my motorcycle was definitely worth it.

I've been looking at buying a set of these red Hella horns for 3-4 months for my 4Runner. Been hoping to catch them on sell. Has anyone ever mounted a set of these? Just wanting to know if the sound as good as they look??
Twan...are you interested in selling yours? If so, PM me....thanks

Had them on my old Subaru. They don't sound nice. They sound loud and have a lot of dissonance which makes them very aggressive. Not a clean sounding euro horn at all. That being said... If I had an extra set I'd put them on in a heartbeat.

I really like my Hella Supertones. I kept them when I sold my Subaru. Seems just about anything sounds better than factory though :).

Such a Subaru thing. I originally bought them for my WRX, then held onto them in case I put them on the Baja I sold today, and now I'll probably stick them on the 4Runner. I'm not selling them, but I did get them for cheap from Streetside Auto's website. They often have discount codes.

I think the last thing I want is my horn to sound appealing. I want it to be aggressive and obnoxious so whatever jackass I'm honking at notices.

I'm confused...

I have an 02 and my horn is pretty loud and agressive. Definately not the typical "meep meep" of the older toyotas I have had (4). Did they change them later in the 3rd gen cycle or could I have replacement horns? They look stock.

Horns aren't supposed to sound nice or clean. They are for getting others' attention. The more they stand out the better.

Your 4Runner will probably reject it like an unwanted organism. At best, your 4Runner's reliability will probably go down.:D

This thread is worthless without audio. Post up a youtube!

I read somewhere that they did change them for '01 and '02 but wasn't sure if I believed it. It would be cool if you, or someone else with an '01-'02, could get a video so we could hear them. A direct 4runner replacement would be a lot easier to do

they did change. 01-02's sound much better than previous years. mine sound great being loud and all but i am changing them to a much louder horn.

i found the horns in my garage and installed them today. i've always loved early 70's GM horns as all my classics had them and these are loud! audio/video doesn't do these any justice, but if someone wants it, i'll make one so you can hear them.
