How close to "E" or, 0 miles left on your range indicator have you gone?

Just curious on how many out there have gotten "0 miles" left on their range indicator. I think the closest I've come thus far is 4 or 5 I think. But it would be good to know how much past "0 miles" we can really go. I know that in my Audi A4 I could drive another 20-30 miles past 0 miles.

And on a side note... this reminds me so much of the Kramer ordeal on Seinfeld.... "living on the edge!":)

I've gone about 5 miles past 0. Not that I recommend it. I got on the highway after forgetting to stop at the gas station. Took 22 and change out of 23 gal. to fill it up. Never a good thing to do w/ a pressurized fuel system.

:headslap:

I would gas up after 10-15 miles of gas range left, although I've never gone past 26 miles of gas range.

I can't say how accurate the fuel range meter is, plus, you don't want the debris that settles on the bottom into your engine.

I never let it get any less than half-tank. I can't bear to pay $60.00 for a tank of gas, so I gas up often. It tricks my brain into thinking I'm not paying so much! :jump:

That's the same method I use. :p
I've never had it below 100.

A Winter's Tale

It's the dead of Michigan winter, and I'm heading home via back roads. The fuel light has been on for some time, but I pass up a gas station with high prices because I know a cheaper station awaits about 15 miles down the road and my trip computer says 23 miles to empty. It begins to snow, hard. I press on.

Time passes. The miles-to-empty still says 23, but I've slowed down because of the snow so that's probably why. More time passes. The trip computer now reads 24. WTF??? I take a closer look and, to my horror, I see I've been reading the outside air temp! I hit the "Mode" button and punch up the miles-to-empty, which reads "0". I'm now just about half-way between gas stations. The snow grows worse, and I slow even more to conserve whatever fuel I still have.

An eternity passes, and I finally roll into the Dowling Marathon station, which today is a whole $.01/gal cheaper than the one I passed up a ways back. I fill up and the pump shuts off at 22.82 gallons. I give Ralf, my 4Runner, a big pat, tell him he's a good truck and head back into the storm for the rest of the trip home to Lansing.
