I'm on my first road trip in my new '17 LE. Running Waze on an iPad mini 4. I mounted it to a Scosche dash/magnet mount for now. I wanted to test out placement and stability without drilling holes somewhere I won't end up wanting them. The tablet sits horizontally on the little shelf in front of the clock. The magnet mount sits behind it, stuck to the dash, with just enough room to rotate the tablet maybe 5 degrees off center in either direction so my wife can work on it more easily, or I can see it better while driving.
We're not doing any real off roading, just small, rough back roads on the northern California coast, during winter storms.
No problems so far. It hasn't come loose, hasn't fallen off.
If I were planning to take this out in the rocks or mountain climbing, I'd bolt a RAM Mount to the dash, console or passenger side seat bolt to rigidly mount the iPad in a mount it couldn't fall out of...
I can post some pictures of the setup later today.
Not sure yet if this will be the final solution, but it's working really well for this use case.
